How to Photograph Weddings - Outdoor Shots

When people as me for advice on how to photograph weddings, one of the most commonly asked questions is about exposure of outdoor shots.

Photographers often ask, should I leave the camera on automatic, should I use shutter or aperture priority on automatic. Also, should I shoot in sunlight or in shade, towards the sun or with the sun to the rear or side?

This article will deal with some answers to these questions about wedding photography.

Regarding leaving the camera on automatic. With todays advances in technology you could be tempted to leave it on auto, and indeed you would get good results ninety nine percent of the time. However and it's a big however, even the best cameras will be fooled by front on lighting and by close ups of brides white dress.

The answer? Always take ambient light readings and set the camera on manual exposure. Make sure to recheck exposure if you detect a change in lighting. This will give you consistent exposure and make it much easier to produce excellent prints.

The same goes for aperture and shutter priority. If you can get enough depth of field and shutter speed on a manual setting always use it. You may want to juggle with shutter speed and aperture even while shooting in manual mode, for example to freeze the bride and groom as they jump from the ground.

Never shoot in direct sunlight with the sun behind you if you can at all avoid it. Your subjects will narrow their eyes from the glare of the sun.

If possible seek shade under some trees or bushes, there your exposures will be more consistent and your subjects will pose without having to screw up their eyes.

If you just can't escape the sun then consider shooting with the sun behind your subject. Yes it is risky and calls for some more than basic expertise. You would take an ambient reading from the faces of the bride and groom and then use fill flash to light the faces, and of course check for possible lens flare.

Photographing weddings calls for some expertise in exposure technique particularly for outdoor shots in sunny conditions.

I hope this article has helped you.

Understanding Landscape Photography

What is Landscape Photography?

Landscape photography is, technically speaking, photography of wide vistas. Typically we think of landscape photography as purely mother nature, but it can also include urban landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, and more, depending on your definition.

When you see a landscape scene that makes you stop and take a photo, try to figure out what made you want to capture that shot. What is the essence of the scene, and how would you describe it? Is it a lush forest, or a barren dessert? The words you use to describe it should be the mood you try to capture on film.

Whatever your description, try to focus on one thing that evokes that mood, and compose your image to emphasize that thing - consider using different lenses, different lighting (sunset vs harsh mid-day sun vs moonlight), and different compositions to accentuate your chosen mood. For example, to highlight a barren desert, consider shooting mid-day with a polarizing filter where the shadows are the most dramatic. If you capture a lone camel trotting along into a seemingly infinite desert, that might accomplish hopelessness.

Once you've chosen your scene and your emotion, you must figure out how to create a sense of depth in your image (foreground, midground, and background) while giving the eye something to focus on - perhaps a waterfall or lake, or even a splash of colour in an otherwise dreary landscape.

Depth within a photo requires that the foreground, midground, and background all be in sharp focus at the same time, and that each zone has something worth your eye's focus. This large depth of field requires you use a small aperture (large f/number) and corresponding shutter speed for a proper exposure. Most typically you will see landscape photographers using aperture-priority mode to set the scene.

Edit Digital Photos - Digital Photo Recovery

Pictures have become such an important part of how we preserve part of our present to carry forward into the future. Since technology brought forth digital photography, it has become the means by which this preservation takes place. Digital photography now captures all of the special events in our lives from weddings and births to music recitals and first dances. With these captured memories being so important, the thought of these photos being gone is unimaginable and their actual loss can be devastating.

Even though it may appear that the camera malfunctioned, all hope isn't completely lost. There are ways that you can recover your digital photographs, even though you may not be aware of it. Most digital camera's for instance, use smart cards that will store the information. To be on the safe side, you should always safe your photographs to your card, and transfer them to your computer the first chance you get - then back them up to a CD or DVD.

Many people have thought themselves to have lost or deleted their photos from the computer. This can potentially be a quick fix correction. Check in the recycle bin to see if the photos were moved into here. Drag the photo files to the desktop, then right click and choose restore. Following this procedure will return the photo to the location it was in prior to being moved into the recycle bin.

There may be occasional when your digital photos are not so simple to retrieve. It will be much harder to recover your photos if the camera itself has had hardware problems to occur, or if the smart card has become corrupted. Should this be the case, refer to the software or consult a professional repairman. In the instance of a malfunction, there is software available on the market created for the purpose of correcting digital camera problems. Normally this software can recover the photographs.

Most services and software can recover almost all files that you have on your camera, from JPEG pictures to video files. Most people transfer their pictures to their computer as soon as they can, which can be recovered using data recovery methods. On the other hand, those who don't, will need a professional to take a look at the camera. If you don't waste any time and seek a professional immediately, your pictures can normally be recovered.

Digital cameras are something that most of us own these days, as they take professional quality photos. Anytime that it appears you have lost your pictures, you can turn to software and professional recovery services to get your pictures back. Your digital photographs are very important, which is why you'll want to take care of them. Mistakes and disasters do happen though - which is why there are recovery services.

Digital Wedding Photography: Myth Vs. Reality

1. Myth: Digital photos are pixilated or fuzzy.
Reality: most people that say that have never seen a photo produced by a professional grade digital camera. The quality of modern digital cameras is equal of greater than film cameras.

2. Myth: Digital photos don't last they will fade in a couple of years.
Reality: Only the photo capture part is digital. The printing is done using traditional photo paper on the same paper and chemistry used to print film photos. So, both will last the same.

3. Myth: Digital colors are muddy.
Reality: Only if they are produced with cheap, low quality cameras and/or the photographer doesn't know how to adjust them and process them for printing

4. Myth: Digital photos are dangerous; the photographer can lose your photos.

Reality: Nowadays most photos are stored using Flash Cards that is one of the most reliable forms of digital storage. After the wedding the photos are downloaded to the computer and additional backups are created on CD or DVD allowing several copies of the same event to reside on different locations. In the case that photos are accidentally deleted they can be recovered using software. With film there is only one copy. It is not uncommon for the photo labs to lose the film, damage it in the printing machine, process it in the wrong chemistry, scratch it, etc. Film also can be damaged in camera, be fogged, damaged by X-rays at the airport, suffer color changes due to heat or age etc.

5. Myth: Digital photos lack detail.
Reality: Only if they are produced with cheap, low quality cameras. It is not unusual for us to produce 30x40 inch prints from our professional grade cameras with stunning detail.

6. Myth: Digital is cheaper because there is no film.
Reality: Professional grade digital cameras and lens are very expensive. In addition the professional photographer has to invest on computer equipment and software to process the photos.

7. Myth: I got a digital camera that takes great photos now I can start a career as a wedding photographer.
Reality: Wedding photography requires that you have artistic talent and that you learn photography including composition, lighting, etc. A wedding is an uncontrolled event that requires technical and artistic skill. It is not the place to learn photography.

8. Myth: I don't have to take care when I take photos anymore I can fix it later in Photoshop or other photo-editing program.
Reality: Garbage in and garbage out. There is no fix for badly composed photos, out of focus, bad lighting, etc.

9. Myth: Digital photography is easy now I don't need a professional wedding photographer.
Reality: If you trust your wedding memories to somebody who doesn't have the professional skills you are likely to be sorry or disappointed.

10. Myth: I am afraid that the photographer will do weird effects.
Reality: the purpose of the editing software is to enhance the quality of the photos. It is not a license to create weird stuff. Talk to your photographer about your expectations.

11. Myth: Digital will never be better than or equal to film.
Reality: Digital cameras are equal or better than film in terms of resolution color fidelity etc. and far superior in low light situations. The "film look" can be easily emulated using digital imaging processing techniques.

12. Myth: I got a bigger fancier camera with more megapixels than your so my photos will be better than yours.
Reality: Unless you have the technical and artistic skill the camera that you use will have minimal impact on the quality of the photos that you produce. A great camera in the right hands will produce great results. Some of the greatest photos in history were produced using mechanical cameras.

Sell Your Photos - 3 Ways to Sell Your Freelance Photography

If you love photography then a career as a freelance photographer is well worth considering. If you want to start a business in freelance photography there are three main ways to sell your photos.

1. Stock Photography

Stock photography refers to a stock of existing photographs that can be licensed for specific uses. Publishers, magazines, advertising agencies, filmmakers, web designers, and graphic artists are all examples of users of stock photography. They can use stock photography instead of hiring a photographer to shoot the photographs they need.

As a photographer when you take photographs those photos become a part of your "stock". As the copyright holder you can license the images again and again. Your stock photos can be sold online through stock agencies and microstock sites, or by approaching publishers and other users directly, or you can sell them through your own web site.

2. Photography Products

You can take your photographs and create products for sale. Some examples of possible photography products include posters, prints, postcards, t-shirts and even books.

At CafePress, for example, you can design a wide variety of customizable products using your photos with zero upfront costs and zero inventory investment.

3. Photography Services

Another way to work in freelance photography is sell your skills, to sell your services as a photographer. In this capacity you could work on assignment for portraits, for weddings, or for various types of business project.

If you only want to work part-time at your photography, then working as a freelance photographer is still a great way to earn a little extra cash or to pay for your next digital camera or lens.

If you would like to start your own freelance photography business selling your photos online, please visit http://www.CameraCareer.com You'll discover all you need to know to get started including which photos to take and how to get the best fees whenever you sell your photos.

Looking for Good Picture Framing Supplies?

Looking for good Picture framing supplies? After you have gone to all of the effort to create a beautiful painting or photograph, you will want to ensure that it is beautifully preserved for many years to come. There are, however, several ways that artwork can become damaged. Exposure to heat or cold, water, dirt, dust, pollution, and light can all play a part in causing the artwork to lose its luster. There are steps artists can take to protect your artwork from damage, and it comes down to your choice of picture framing supplies.

Temperature changes can distress your artwork held within a frame. Variations of heat and cold can cause artwork to expand and contract. Because of this movement, a piece of art can buckle within a frame, which can wreak havoc with the surface of the artwork. One way to prevent this from happening is to consider using framing supplies such as photo corners when mounting the art to the mount board. Because these corners are not permanently attached to the mount board, they offer a bit of give and take when the art is moving due to temperature fluctuations, and can lengthen the life of the artwork.

Another condition damaging to artwork is when water builds up inside a framed piece of art. If the artwork is in direct contact with the glazing, the resulting water from high atmospheric humidity levels can mar the surface of the art. Even if it is not in contact because a mat board separates it, nevertheless the combination of water with pollutants, dirt and dust can create acids harmful to your artwork, which can also cause deterioration in wood picture frames. This problem can be lessened by the use of acid-free framing supplies, including the mat board, method of adhesion of the art to the mount board, and the mount board itself.

Light that plays on your artwork can also be a source of damage. Ultra violet light rays can be harmful to photographs and other types of artwork, because they can cause the art to fade. If your artwork is placed near a window, this is an important consideration. In order to prevent light damage, many artists use acrylic glazing framing supplies. Although glass, a common glazing material, is strong and scratch resistant, acrylic framing supplies can be infused with a matte finish to reduce glare on the artwork's surface. It also comes in a form that resists ultra violet light penetration, which also helps to preserve the artwork within.

Getting the Picture With Digital Cameras

My wife calls me Boris, as in Boris Johnson the new Mayor of London. Not because I'm power hungry and hell bent on illicit affairs, but because she reckons I'm a relic from a bygone age. I guess you could call me old fashioned, although I prefer the word traditionalist. It's all because I'm not keen on modern technology and the latest chant of 'Boris' came over my refusal to start using the digital camera she insisted on buying me for my 60th birthday.

I liked the old system: pop your 24 or 36 exposure film into the camera, take your pictures, pop the films in to get developed, collect them a couple of days later, then look through them and put in the album. Job done. Memories collected and stored.

Since my wife got a digital camera that whole system has gone to pot. She takes dozens more pictures, downloads them on to her computer and then waits months before getting them printed or sorting them out.

I never saw the point, until the day of my party. As I said, 'I liked' the old system. Not any more. Oh, no. No more chants of 'Boris' for me.

My party was a cracking do, but I was disappointed that my brother couldn't make it over from Australia for the big day. He phoned to wish me all the best and asked me to email him some pictures. I didn't even know you could email pictures.

Anyway I didn't want to ask my wife about it for fear of ridicule so I spoke to my son. On the night of the party he took some pictures of me and the family celebrating, then I popped round to his the next day to sort them out for emailing.

First of all he showed me the website where my wife bought the camera, and explained all the features and qualities of the one she got me for my birthday. I couldn't believe how such a small and light object could be capable of doing so much and producing such a quality end product. I have to admit I felt quite sheepish about being so deliberately ignorant about the Internet, emailing, and digital cameras, etc.

Then my son showed me how simple it was to choose pictures, resize them, touch them up and then email them.

What a buzz. The quality of the pictures is amazing, and it was so easy to send them as attachments to my brother. And digital cameras are so straightforward to use. I was amazed.

I even took a couple of my son, and put the camera on timer to take one of both of us, then downloaded, resized and sent them to my wife's email address. I t was the first email I've ever sent her and I left a short note saying, "I get the picture with digital cameras now, so now you'll need to find a new nickname for me."

Taking Vacation Travel Pictures

Going on vacation is a great time to take lots of pictures. But what could be worse than ruining many travel pictures as they come out blurred, dark, or too bright? This happened to me all the time until I learned how to take better vacation pictures. In this article, I will give you the tips and tricks to do so as well.

The best thing about going on vacation is that you see a bunch of new settings and such. This is also the worst thing. You are now in a unique environment. The sun sets at a different time. The lighting is different. Everything is different. Now that you're away from home you don't have the precise control you used to.

A solution to the unpredictable is to always be prepared for the worst. Before you go somewhere, look up as much as you possibly can. Find out how the weather will be. Checking to see if there's rain or no rain is not enough. Look and see if it'll be cloudy, hazy, or very sunny. This will affect your shots all differently.

When you are ready, get your equipment ready. You probably won't be able to bring as much as you can. A simple diffuser and reflector should do. Also, be sure to bring plenty of extra camera equipment. Spare batteries and lens cleaning kits are a must.

Filters are also life savers when on vacation. Polarizing filters really help. When on vacation, a lot of great shots are through windows. This filter will get rid of those annoying reflections.

Inexpensive Digital Cameras

When it comes to the search for inexpensive digital cameras, a bit of a reality check is in order. Inexpensive in this case usually means that you would be fortunate to find a decent digital camera at a price under four hundred dollars. However, don't panic if just that very thought has your pocketbook groaning and your eyes watering over all that overtime you will have to put in to afford one of these so-called 'inexpensive' digital cameras; there are now a few cheaper options on the market.

You can actually buy great inexpensive digital cameras for less than four hundred dollars - even under two hundred dollars if you know what you're looking for.

What to look for in Inexpensive Digital Cameras

Ideally, you want to compromise as little as possible on resolution and zoom. That will enable you to shoot pictures of as high a quality as possible from inexpensive digital cameras. So go for at least five mega-pixels in the resolution and try to get a at least a 10x zoom.

Below are a few options for you if you're looking for good but inexpensive digital cameras.

Canon PowerShot S1 IS

This really is one of the most inexpensive digital cameras you can find that still has great features; it retails at less than four hundred dollars but has some features that even a much more expensive camera would be proud to boast. It has the 10X optical zoom mentioned above, although the resolution comes in a little low at 3.2 mega pixels; it's still pretty good though. As well as still pictures, the Canon PowerShot S1 IS will capture thirty-two frames per second in video capture. It's 32MB of memory is impressive.

If instead you're after a higher resolution, go for:

Olympus Ultra Zoom C-765

What's even more fantastic about one of these inexpensive digital cameras is that you can bag yourself one for under two hundred dollars. This time its resolution is four mega pixels. It still has the 10x optical zoom too, as well as a 4x digital zoom. It also has a point and shoot mode so you can assume full control of this great inexpensive digital camera.

As you can see, just in considering these two examples, it is possible to get some fantastic and inexpensive digital cameras which will give you all the features you desire for great photos and even video capture, if you select the right model.

Film Verses Digital - What's the Difference Anyway?

In the old days, if your camera (35mm of course) had a battery die on you in the middle of an important shoot, you still had options. I mean after all; the only thing you needed the battery for was the light meter, its not like your whole camera will shut down if you have no battery. Oh, Im sorry if you are using all digital that might have stung just a little bit. But anyway, the old school rule was this: if you were using 100 speed film you would set your shutter speed to whatever the flash sync speed was (usually 1/60th or 1/125th of a second), set your f-stop to f-16, and bracket every shot.

To be honest; the reason you used the flash sync speed was because in most cases it was a mechanical speed, just in case you had one of those new fangled SLRs that use electronic shutter. But besides the obvious dependency on a charged battery, there are other differences between film and digital cameras.

If you have ever shopped for a digital camera you have no doubt heard one of the key buzz phrases, 35mm equivalent. This means that the optics are not exactly the same. Since the 35mm SLR camera has been the standard for the last 50 years, thats what they compare it to. The difference between the two is a ratio of 1:1.4. Simply put, a 35-200 zoom on a digital camera would be like having a 49-280 zoom lens on a traditional 35mm camera.

The main reason the optics are different is because the sensor (the device that actually reads the light) is also a different size. Film cameras use a film sensitive to light that is placed directly behind the lens. When the correct exposure is calculated, that image is literately burned into the film. Digital cameras, on the other hand use a sensor; that also sits behind the lens. This sensor is made up of millions of individual points that each represents 1 pixel. Once the sensor has gathered the information for each pixel it then transfers that data to a digital media card of some type (which can be used again and again.)

Generally digital cameras use sensors that are smaller than the 35mm film used in older cameras. The Depth of Field changes with the size of the sensor, the smaller the sensor the higher the depth of field. The reason they are made the sensor smaller is generally a cost factor to the manufacturer.

The sensor is the physical device that gathers information about the quality of light coming into the camera. The process or how it goes about gathering that information is referred to as metering. The human eye can see the world around it with a range of about 16 f-stops; camera meters on the other hand, only have a range of 5 f-stops at any given time. This is why camera meters are calibrated for mid range exposures of 18% gray, because 90% of the time that is as close as we will get to what the human eye can do. Its not a fault that the camera can not see as good as you do, its simply a fact of life.

There are basically only three types of metering systems. They are:

A) Spot Metering

B) Center-Weighted Metering

C) Matrix Metering

Spot metering as the name indicates only reads a small spot or portion of the overall image (usually 1% to 3%). This type of metering is useful in any situation where the lighting is extreme. Backlit subjects, macro shots, or even pictures of the moon can benefit from this type of metering. This type of metering is usually found on the more costly upper end cameras.

Center-Weighted metering averages the overall scene with an emphasis on the center area of the frame. Usually this type of meter bases its reading with 75% of the light hitting center frame and 25% for everything else. It assumes that most people place their subject dead center, most of the time. It is worth noting that most center weighted systems have a greater sensitivity in the bottom half of the frame; to avoid an overly contrasting sky from throwing off the readings. This type of system is by far the most common used in digital cameras today. Even the higher end Digital SLRs use this as their default setting.

Matrix Metering splits your image up into anywhere from 3 to 16 metering zones and evaluates the different zones to come up with one over all reading. In this process of evaluation it takes into account factors like: subject size, position, distance, point of focus, over all lighting, color and more. This system uses a microchip which has been exposed to thousands of different picture-taking situations. It is by far the most complex and the most accurate metering system to date. It is also usually found on the higher end Digital SLRs.

I have used the word digital several times, but do not be deceived. These are the same type of metering systems used in traditional film cameras as well. The only other known way of reading light has to do with reflected light verses surface light. Most meters in the camera are reading reflected light (IE the light that is reflected off the main subject and reaches the camera.) Every so often you will see someone with a hand held light meter that will go right up to the subject and read the light that falls on the surface of that subject. Some photographers still debate which way is more accurate. The idea of the Spot Metering should accomplish the same thing, but for many photographers (fashion photographers in particular), the separate meter seems more standard.

With these points in mind, consider not only the differences but the similarities as well. All of us have our favorites; Canon, Nikon, Kodak. Some choose digital, some choose film. The things to remember are what we all need to get a great shot. Things like composition, leading lines, framing, and the rule of thirds are much more important to our success as great photographers than the physical tools we use to accomplish a great shot. On the other hand, knowing what your particular camera or metering system can or can not do, lets you know if you have the right tool for the job.

The New Way To Create A Personalised Photomontage

It must have been about two years ago now that myself and my partner didn't know what to get for my mother at Christmas time. After running out of ideas I noticed the amount of photographs she had stored in the cabinet next to the armchair. It was then I asked her why she didn't have a photo album, she said she didn't have enough time to sort all of the photographs out. Fair enough, could be a tedious job I suppose. I then came up with the idea of creating a custom photo album for her, the result was very surprising and I could see a tear in her eye as she opened the personalised gift on Christmas morning.
A year on and I have taken it a step further, this year I presented her with one of our personalised photo montages which had an even better impact on her than the personalised photo album. I guess it's the amount of time and thought that goes into creating one of these babies. The end result is really impressive and the montage my mother received Christmas '07 is now sitting proudly above her fireplace. I now intend to offer people this service. I really think that our personalised picture collages make great gifts, not just at Christmas time but also for birthdays, retirements, anniversaries and graduations.
I would have to say that the key to these prints is personalisation. You choose what you want to be included in these prints, whether it be your favorite photos, certificates, military medals, badges - they can all be included. You may also want to have a camera present for when the person opens up the photo montages gift - their reaction can be priceless.

The Number One Cause of Cropped Digital Prints

You've just taken the photo of a lifetime with your digital camera.

It has perfect light, a great composition, and the photography muse was clearly smiling upon you when you took the shot.

You send it off to the printers, and what you get back is terribly disappointing.

A quarter of your image is gone!

The brilliant composition that you so carefully crafted when you took the photo doesn't have the same impact as the image you see on your computer.

What in the world happened?

Aspect Ratio

Welcome to the world of aspect ratio.

It sounds mathematical, but it is easy to understand once the following four points makes sense:

  • A standard 4x6 print has an aspect ratio of 2:3 (4x6 divided by 2)
  • A single film negative also has an aspect ratio of 2:3
  • Some digital camera sensors do not have an aspect ratio of 2:3
  • Aspect ratios are usually written with the long side first (3:2)

Remember when you used to get your film photos developed into 4x6 prints?

The photo that you took was the photo you got in the print. Since the aspect ratio of film is the same as a 4x6 print, no cropping takes place.

But the aspect ratio of your digital camera might be 4:3 (a common alternative to the 3:2 ratio).

Here's the key point: every photo that you take with a 4:3 digital camera will get cropped when you make a standard 4x6 print. Since the aspect ratios aren't equivalent, some of your image is lost.

Larger Print Sizes

People who own digital cameras with 3:2 sensors might be feeling pretty smug right about now. But even you are not immune to the effects of aspect ratio.

Let's say that you take your 3:2 image and make a 5x7 or 8x10 inch print. Do you think you see the problem here? 3:2 is not equivalent to 7:5, nor is it equivalent to 5:4 (8x10 divided by 2).

Every 3:2 photo that you print at 5x7 or 8x10 will get cropped - you're now in the same boat as all of those 4:3 people trying to make 4x6 prints.

True, this problem is not the same as the previous one. You're far more likely to make 4x6 prints than 5x7 or 8x10. If the 4x6 prints remain intact and only the larger sizes get cropped then 90% of the prints you make will turn out fine.

Your Options

If you are buying a new digital camera, find out beforehand what the aspect ratio of the sensor is.

  • If you want to make a lot of 4x6 prints, get a camera with a 3:2 sensor
  • If you enjoy making larger size prints, it won't matter what the sensor's aspect ratio is - both 3:2 and 4:3 will get cropped in some way
  • If you never want to print your photos, then the 4:3 ratio is actually more convenient since 4:3 is the same aspect ratio as your monitor - this makes it easy to use your photos for desktop backgrounds

If you already own a digital camera, there's not too much you can do about print cropping - it will happen one way or another.

The only way to control it is to do the cropping yourself. In every photo that you take, leave additional space around the borders of the image.

Use your favorite image editing program and set your cropping tool to the aspect ratio of the print that you want to make (3:2 for 4x6, 7:5 for 5x7 and 5:4 for 8x10). When you crop the photo for the appropriate print size, you are in control of the parts of the image that get lost.

This way you won't get any nasty surprises when you get the prints back from your most recent tropical vacation.

How to Expose a Shot Properly - Digital Photography Tips

Learning how to expose a photo properly is NOT hard at all. It is probably one of the easiest things to learn in photography. If you think so, this article will show you that it isn't hard at all.

How to Expose a Shot Properly - Digital Photography Tips

Aperture Priority Mode
This mode lets you control the amount of light that is let in through the iris of the camera. A larger iris means more light will be let in. This is good for scenes without much light like the shade or indoors. A small aperture is good for bright settings or scenes that you want lots of depth focused.
In this mode, the shutter is automatically adjusted to the aperture to properly expose the shot.

There are many different modes that you can expose in. The first mode is...

Shutter Priority Mode
This mode lets you control how long light is let into your camera. The aperture is then automatically adjusted to this length of light let in. This is the best option when you want to avoid blur or are in certain settings. For example, in very bright settings you want to use a shutter that is fast. Whereas a dark area would require a longer exposure for the light.

Manual
The manual mode is more complex. You must properly expose the shutter and the aperture. You need a light meter to do this properly. This is really not a mode to start using until you're more familiar with the settings.

Carl Zeiss And His Binoculars

The Carl Zeiss brands of binoculars were not created because there was a need for them. The company has been in business for over a hundred years. They have much experience in the manufacturing of optical products. It was created in the year of 1852 as a workshop for Moritz Carl Hensoldt the founder of the company. He was in the business of creating equipment used in astronomy, microscopes, and telescopes for viewing planets and other terrestrial objects. In the year of 1893 an application for the double telescope with a longer range of sight was applied for. It was given to them July 9, 1893.

Two years later the binoculars that are made by Carl Zeiss used the cuff gasket for their designed because it was an item that had many features to it. The binocular products that were made with this item were able to focus on something while being safely covered from any debris and wetness. This was a major feat for a double sight binocular because up until then, it was only in a single sight binocular.

The binoculars that Carl Weiss came out with in 1958 were known as the B-model. these binoculars give you a wide range of sight and are great for the users that have eyeglasses. Pocket size binoculars were made in 1974 and given to the public as a grand feature. These binoculars also gave you a main point of focus and were also available for glasses wearers.

The ones that introduce a new idea into technology should be the ones that others ask for information on those items. This is true in many of the cases.

The Carl Zeiss binoculars that have the roof prisms in them came about in the year of 1897. These particular binoculars are well known as the Penta 7x29 model A-. This product was the beginning of the better features in the world of binoculars and scopes for rifles.

Much of the things that Carl Zeiss stands for came from many trial and error times. This is not uncommon for the technology world to try and fail only to find a better product among the dust. Carl Zeiss has worked hard to give the customers the best of the best features possible in the market today.

Carl Zeiss created another wonderful set of binoculars in the year of 1903. The Dialyt was created for the binocular marketplace. It was recognized around the world and gathered much fame and success. This was the beginning of the trademark that would forever be known as the Dialyst. This trademark would take the Carl Zeiss binocular products and scopes for rifles trademark of Diavari around the world. The Diavari trademark came into existence in 1954.

Camera Lenses

Lenses are described by focal length, usually telling you the lens' widest image angle and the zoom ratio. The focal length measured in millimeters is number derived from a mathematical formula.

Camera Lenses

When selecting a lens, make sure it fits your camera, as not all lenses fit all cameras. Even if you change to a newer model of the same manufacturer's camera, the old lens may not work. If the lens has an electric zoom, iris, and maybe even focus, these functions could be powered and controlled by a multi-wire cable that connects between the lens and the camera. Therefore, getting the right signals and voltages from the camera to the lens makes it a tricky matter.

Photography is undoubtedly one of the most important inventions in history--it has truly altered how people conceive the world. Now, we can see everything clearly, including that which is actually many miles or years away from us. Photography lets us encapsulate moments in time and conserve them for years to come.

If you need to shoot in humid climates, keep your camera and lens sealed securely. Let the two warm up to outside temperatures before you use them. This prevents condensation from forming on your gear. If dampness gets inside your lens, fungus starts to grow and it is nearly impossible to remove.

Using Film Speed Effectively

Most of the time youll only need a 400 speed film for basic snapshots. But it doesnt hurt to use the other speeds for special occasions, youll notice a difference.

Film speed is a number that represents the films sensitively to light. The higher the number the more sensitive to light, in that the less light is needed to take a well exposed photo. The number is also an indicator of the detail you will receive from the negative. The higher the number the more likely that youll see a graininess to the print when enlarged. Film speed goes from 25 to 1600 speed film.

400 Considered the all purpose film. Most films touted as all subject or general purpose are really 400 speed film. When in doubt use 400 speed film. Though you may still be using your camera mounted flash in room lighting conditions. Also good for outdoor conditions, will give you some flexibility in darker conditions and where you are trying to capture a moving subject.

800 to 1200 Made for capturing fast moving subjects in all types of lighting situations. People running, playing ball, etc. This is the film you want if you want to freeze frame the action of a baseball game. This film speed can be used for capturing fast moving wildlife, like birds, but you will see less detail if you enlarge above a 16 by 20 size.

25 to 200 Best for still life and portrait work, in studio conditions where the lighting is controlled. This is not the film for family shots indoors even with a camera mounted flash. Youd really need a complete lighting set up to use this film effectively. 200 speed film is very good for outdoor sunny conditions when youre trying to get a shot of a beautiful landscape. It offers excellent detail and color saturation.

So you have this great new camera. Now youre standing in front of a display of more film that youve ever seen. All you want to do is take some great family photos but you dont know where to start. Heres short guide to help you get started.

1600 This film is for super high speed shots. Unless you shooting a car or boat race you probably wont need this film. Dont use this for nature and landscape images the lack of detail will be obvious in enlargements.

Essays For Heightening Awareness And Improving Performance In Photographic Art

Internationally renowned author and self development expert Dr. Wayne Dyer said; "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at begin to change." In general, we are creatures of habit traveling the road of least resistance and our comfort zones tend to have rigid boundaries. From a photographic perspective Dr. Dyers quote is very applicable. Great photography, in my perspective, does not start with looking but rather seeing. Seeing starts with the eyes and then is translated in the brain. By controlling the speed of this process you afford yourself the opportunity for a more intimate/impacting interaction. This will result in not only a heightening awareness of what is around you but more powerful compositions - the technical foundation for great images. For me, this was one of the most significant changes I made in my approach to photographing natural landscapes. Using a large format view camera certainly helped in this endeavor as it just takes more time to make an image with one. But I did find that by slowing down I began to see beyond the obvious and that helped me shape new, more open perspectives and further develop unique and intimate interpretations or compositions of the subject matter I was photographing.

"Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite
variety of perception, interpretation and execution." - Ansel Adams

The word powerful not only describes photography but Ansels quote as well. In essence, what he is saying is photography is (and should always be considered) a dynamic art form though in some circles, that is subject to debate even to this day. In this ongoing series we will look at a multitude of subject matter and apply the key components of Ansels quote; expression, communications, perception, interpretation and execution to each of them. I will add my perspective, experiences and interject a little philosophy into the mix with the goal being to open your eyes and mind to the infinite possibilities for inspiration and growth as a creative photographic artist.

Essays For Heightening Awareness And Improving Performance In Photographic Art

You will notice I did not use the word motivation. Years as a certified corporate sales trainer has taught me that you or I can not motivate someone with words, actions or our own artistic outcome. Motivation truly and purely comes from within each of us. External stimuli; the things we see, touch and feel act as the fuel we call inspiration that once communicated, translated and intellectualized within us, converts to motivation and then action. This is a key part of what drives artistic development and individual style. How much passion you foster and self discipline you assert will affect the rate and extent you develop your artistic identity. So you see, there's more to taking "good pictures" than pointing an expensive camera at some subject. Actually, there is more to it than being technically adept. You must be passionate, disciplined and willing to think outside the box in order to develop is your artistic identity, or in Ansel's terminology; interpretation.

Let me conclude with something that Pablo Picasso once said; "I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it." Sounds simple but this approach requires a commitment to self discipline. You will attain consistency by applying repetition in all aspects of photography which ultimately becomes mental muscle memory or your photographic process routine. This will reap artistic benefits whether you are standing on the south rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the shore of Lake Superior at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan or in your own garden. It is the first month of the New Year and there is no better time for a new start, new perspective and a new found level of artistic individuality. I hope you are inspired to come back and partake in these exercises of contemplation and discovery. Becoming more focused in your artistic thought process will help make your photography "a powerful medium of expression and communications." Until next time, take good care.

So, where do you start in this endeavor to shape a unique artistic identity? Slow down and I dont mean just when you have a camera in your hands. Take more time to think thru what impact the subject has on you and subsequently how you want to communicate your perspective or interpretation of that subject. Get outside of your comfort zone and try new approaches and strive for perfect execution of the photographic process. Rest assured we will give greater attention to the timeless process standards later in this series. Go beyond the boundaries of your comfort zone and embrace the idea that change is the only constant in time and that it can be as exciting and rewarding as it is unnerving.

Beginner Photo Tips

One of the most valuable skills to get good at in photography is composing. Get good at this and everything else is much easier. Composing your photos is hard at first. But with the tips below, it should be much easier.

Beginner Photo Tips

Tip 3: Add Some Depth

Nobody likes to find a needle out of a haystack. And in photography, that's exactly the same story. When people look at photos, they should tell what the subject of interest is instantly. If they have to ask "what should I be looking at" the photos too complex. Keeping your photo simple is easy. Just define your main subject of interest and isolate it. Don't have any unwanted details in there. For example, if your photographing a moose and there's a fast food restaurant close by, don't compose the shot with the restaurant in the frame.

A photo is a 2 dimensional thing representing a three dimensional world. Taking photos in front of a wall dead on will get rid of the depth. The solution is to try adding as much depth possible. Photograph from an angle so the lines add depth from foreground to background.

It's no secret that photography is hard work. Taking photos is a very creative process and requires lots of artistic ability. Not only that, you need to know all the technicality of exposing as well. This article will give you some beginner photography tips to get you taking great shots in no time.

Many people take photos of things all the time. They see a bird. Snap. They see a waterfall. Snap. No thought is involved in taking the shot. Before taking a photo, look at it first. Notice the lines, the colors, the contrasts, and the lighting. See which arrangement would look best for the shot.

Tip 1: Don't just point and shoot

Why Buy A Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera?

Could the Nikon D80 be the holy grail of the entry level digital SLR universe? What I mean by that, is the D80 a product that could finally bridge the gap from point and shoot cameras to the pro SLR level without breaking the bank, and needing a degree in rocket science to take great pictures. From my past experience, I'd have to say that's not very likely.

Why Buy A Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera?

File this next nit pick under blatant cash grab. Nikon charges an additional $99 to buy the Capture NX software. A nice package to have, especially for fans of the wide angle lens. While there is other software out there that provides the same functionality, Nikon could have spoiled their new customers a little by bundling this one with the D80 SLR.

- ISO can only be changed thru the menu (too slow)

- small grip for big hands

Let's take a look at auto focus first. Having 11 auto focus points is a good thing, but not necessarily perfect. While it's true, that most camera auto focus schemes will fail under both low light conditions, and images with very little contrast, not all fail as badly. The Nikon D80 seems to struggle with it's focusing approach more significantly than other cameras. If your a manual focuser by habit, then no big deal. Otherwise, one strike against the D80.

- use of SD memory cards negates consumers existing CF card collection

Minor details to some, but to others possible deal breakers. It's really for you to decide. How you take pictures and where you want to take your art are the deciding factors. Here's a few more morsels to gnaw on:

Suggesting that a $800 digital SLR camera produces soft images, is a somewhat relative statement, and should be taken in context. If your spending that kind of money on a digital camera, I would have fairly high expectations in terms of image quality. Sure, thanks to imaging software advances I can sharpen an image on my computer. But, not without introducing some distortion, and not to mention extra time effort on my part.

- new owners must be wary of dead pixel issues

- D80 seals are not exactly industrial strength quality

A Basic Guide to Photography

Another important factor when it comes to photography is to let the imagination run free. Often times, we are too consumed with the right and wrongs of everything. With art, however, there are no limits to what can be created. Sometimes, the rarest occurrence can be captured with a photo. Photos can certainly speak a thousand words, and even the quietest of moment and emotions can be captivated on a photo instead of the spoken word. It is also important to keep a camera in tow when possible. This is because there are always one-chance opportunities that will appear in photography. Without a camera, many people will miss out on the chance to capture something that is truly great.

Many people are often timid when it comes to photography and the various forms that it can take on. Approaching the picture that is about to be taken with an open mind is the best way for many to enjoy their times that they have with photography. The basics of photography are simple, and can be explored as far as the mind can reach. With a camera and the right moment and image, anything is possible of being captured in time. A basic guide is just that - basic. For those that may feel more comfortable doing so, there are classes that can also be taken to help with learning about taking pictures. With no limitations to the pictures, there are many adventures with photography that await many.

Give a camera to anyone and more then likely, that individual will figure out a way to use it. However, tell the photographer to take a skilled photograph, and not everyone will know what to do. There are basic guides to photography that is easy enough for anyone to understand, and will have many people up and running with their various photography projects in no time.

A Basic Guide to Photography

One of the most important aspects to photography is to always take care of the camera that is being used. This means that the camera needs to be placed into a protective case, and kept in a cool, dry, and dark atmosphere, if possible. Exposing the camera to direct heat or sunlight can warp the film, if there is any, inside of the camera. With digital cameras, there is also a need to keep the camera in the shade, as heat can ruin the camera. Harsh conditions to the weather, such as rain and cold, should also be avoided.

Why You Need a Digital Camcorder

Remember the digital camcorder of the olden days? And by olden days I mean four or five years ago. They were big and carrying them around was uncomfortable and inconvenient. The new generation of digital camcorder is very small and can easily fit in a pocket or purse. Many of the new lines of regular digital cameras are now also being built as a digital camcorder so they double as a camera and a camcorder and you have seen how small cameras have gotten.

If you want to find just the right digital camcorder for you, then there are a few things you are going to want to take into consideration when you are out shopping. The make and model of the digital camcorder are going to be very important and it is best to stick to a familiar name. Features of the digital camcorder are also important in finding the right digital camcorder. Maybe you want to focus on optical zoom, or maybe a larger sized screen is what matters to you. Price is another factor that should be taken into consideration. Set out a budget for yourself and then try your best to stick to it.

Big, Bulky, and Difficult to Store

Myth number one is that a digital camcorder is too expensive. If you have looked lately at the line of digital camcorder that is available you will see that prices have dropped considerably. Technology is strange because as technology advances prices usually drop which is the complete opposite of everything else. When they put new features on a Cadillac they always raise the prices. With technology prices drop. Go check out your local digital camcorder and see what the prices are like now. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Find the Right Digital Camcorder

It may seem a bit intimidating when you are trying to decide on something like a digital camcorder, mainly because there are so many different options out there. There are literally hundreds of different makes and models of digital camcorder to choose from, so it can easily become overwhelming.

The old camcorders you remember have changed and it is time you looked into getting one of your own. They are not nearly as expensive as they used to be and the featuresthey offer now are far more advanced than they used to be. They are no longer big and bulky to carry and won't get in the way of you and your family's vacation.

Taking pictures is fun but it is more fun to record events of your life in a movie format. About two years ago it occurred to us how much of not only our lives we are not cataloging but also our kid's life. We were inspired to buy a digital camcorder and with technology the way it is the idea of buying a digital camcorder today is much different than it was a few years ago.

The Future of Digital Photography

If this is the state of photography today, what may the future hold for us? Technologies such as high dynamic range (HDR) imaging and specular reflection have already been developed. They will probably enter the consumer market within the next few years. More long term plans on photographic technology include various forms of 3D modeling.

Cameras have certainly come a long way since the early camera obscura. Today the digital point and shoot cameras used by many fit easily in one hand and are fully automated. You even need none of the film rolls present in cameras from a couple of decades past, but can store hundreds of high quality photographs on a memory card less than a square inch in size.

Nowadays, the number of photos you can take is much higher, so you can afford to make mistakes. Also, a photograph can often be remedied on the personal computer, even if it was spoiled by too much lighting. While that has made photography more beginner friendly, it is still far from an easy hobby.

Photography has been present for more than a hundred years and yet new innovations are taking place even this day. Looking at it, one has to surmise that photography will develop again in the future. It's never too late to get into photography and even now it's too early to stop learning more about it.

The Future of Digital Photography

Regardless of which one of these technologies you will have in your digital camera a few years from now, one thing is certain: your camera will still not take the pictures without your guidance. Choosing the target, the angle of view and cropping the photograph will still be left for you to take care of and excel in.

Hungry For Information

In modern times we have seen reality images not only inform but entertain us. More often than not, they validate us. The success of The Blair Witch Project, the Survival series, CSI, COPS, etc., remind us that as we become more aware of our environment, both urban and natural, we are in a better position to understand where we are and where we are going.

It may be that the still photos and film footage the general public was exposed to in a distant land during the Vietnam War contributed to the halting of that war.

The PBS run of Ken Burn's Civil War series has honed our awareness of what happened on our own soil to boys that went off to war and never came back. Mathew Brady's records of tragically strewn bodies did not have television to increase their exposure. But the exposure they did get served as a powerful reminder to both sides that war wasn't the answer to the eras burning issues.

Hungry For Information

As an editorial photographer, you fit into a society that is hungry for information. Some of it is uplifting - some of it is not always good. There will always be factions in your city, town, or village that will attempt to prevent you from capturing scenes in the course of your experience and observations. It goes with the territory. It's your decision, as it was Mathew Brady's... to do the job.

Note: According to the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington DC < epic.org >, the courts have generally ruled that someone in a public place doesn't have the expectation of privacy.

We don't often think of a camera as a weapon. However, as society moves forward, it's becoming more apparent that the camera, indeed, is becoming at least a protection device. Photographs and videos, used positively, have brought attention to ills of society, ranging from environmental destruction to political chicanery. The strong reality of still photos and video have served as evidence in court cases; ranging from the Los Angeles police beating of Rodney King a decade ago, to the more recent Madelyne Gorman Toogood beating of her 4-year old daughter in the parking lot of a northern Indiana department store.

Caring For Your Digital Camera

Camera parts like the lens, viewfinder and the LCD screen are the most essential elements of a camera. These parts should be regularly cleaned and taken care of. There is a blower available in the market which helps to dust off the dirt on the lens. One should never touch the lens, the viewfinder or the LCD display with fingers. The blower helps in removing the dirt and a lens cleaning solution helps in removing the sticky particles on the lens or viewfinder. The cameras lens cover should be put on when not in use this is the best way to protect your cameras eyes. Once the lens and viewfinder are cleaned the camera assures clear pictures and good view of the image.

Digital cameras don't come cheap. With the kind of features and utility levels of a digital camera a good one costs above ten thousand. Good brands included Canon digital camera, Nikon digital camera, Sony digital camera etc. A digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) would start from thirty thousand and run into lakhs. Digital SLR's are hi-end cameras with professional features and good image quality. When one spends so much on a good quality digital camera taking care of it is also very important. All parts of the camera should be taken care of and there are equipments available in the market for the same. These equipments are one time moderate investment in keeping your expensive camera in good condition.

Most of the digital cameras have auto-focusing which enables even a kid to take decent photography. The LCD viewer helps in getting the right composition of the image. The preview of the images clicked allows keeping the best one from the lot and deleting the rest thus saving on space for more clicks.

Digital camera batteries should be taken out when not in use. If you intend to store your camera for a long time the batteries should be removed and on the next usage they should be charged and then used. Batteries discharge over a period of time and using them without recharging or storing them may hamper your camera and its performance. Also the camera should be stored in a cool dry place. Keeping your expensive Canon digital camera inside your car in summers will hamper the camera and you will have to bear a heavy price for your carelessness. Camera accessories like the extendable memory card should also be taken care off. The card should not be taken out while transferring pictures and should be stored properly when not in use. This enables good performance of the card otherwise it could be corrupted and will turn useless. Thus taking mediocre care of your digital camera and spending a little amount on its care would help in maintaining and making your camera viable for years together.

Starter Guide to Photography

Photography is much more technical than just pushing the shutter button. The more you know, the more control you have over your shot. It's nice to occasionally take an awesome shot that looks perfect, but you'll enjoy it much more when you know exactly what you did to make a photo look beautiful and have the power to do it over and over again.

The Second Step...
The next thing you are going to want to get good at in photography is how to compose photos. Composition is key to making a photo look pleasing and nice. Start following some techniques on photography and get yourself a good program that covers all of the techniques in depth. Go through it and practice every day with the techniques you learn.

The first step
To start, the first thing you are going to want to do is grab your camera. It doesn't matter if it's a point and shoot, a digital SLR, or your cell phones camera. After you have your camera, now you are going to want to learn everything you can about how to use it. Learn what every single button means. This is a critical step for photography. As a painter knows how to use a paint brush, you should learn how to use your camera.

Looking for a starter guide for photography can seem really easy. Go to any book store and there are dozens of books out there. Unfortunately, most of them are filled with pictures and nothing else but little captions with little value. This article will direct you through a step by step process of taking better shots.

Edit Your Digital Photos - A Fast Effective Guide

Adobe's Photoshop software is a very powerful image editing program that is by far the market leader for editing image files. I use Photoshop extensively when creating, and editing images for the web sites that I design. Almost all professional photographers and printers also use Photoshop to create all of the wonderful images that appear in magazines, billboards, and even on television. I am not the best artist in the world, but with Photoshop I have enough power to create brilliant images with tools that are built-in to the software. The coolest thing about Photoshop is that even as powerful as it is out of the box, there are many different plug-ins to make Photoshop even more powerful. The Photoshop plug-ins can be grouped into a few major categories which include 3D, color management, digital asset management, photographic, retouching, and special effects.

Edit Your Digital Photos - A Fast Effective Guide

Exif (Exchangeable Image File Format) is a specification that spells out how information about a JPEG image is stored in the same file as the image. This information, including a thumbnail image, describes the camera settings at the time the picture was taken, and even the image's location if the camera supports GPS (Global Positioning System). Digital cameras record this information as metadata in an area of the image file called the header. This information isn't just for managing images, it can also be used by some printers to give you better results. Basically, any camera control set to auto at the time the image was taken can be manipulated by the printer or other device to improve results. Those set to one of the camera's manual choices is considered to be a deliberate choice and is not manipulated.

When choosing between JPEG and RAW formats, here are some things to consider about each format. Because you can't easily add pixels and retain image quality, or remove the effects of compression after the fact, it's usually best to use the largest available JPEG size and the least compression available. If you have to reduce either, you can do so later using a photo-editing program. If you shoot the image at a lower quality setting, you can never really improve it much or get a large, sharp print if you want one. The only problem with this approach is that higher quality images have larger file sizes. RAW images are always captured at the largest file size, and any compression used is lossless. Images in this format used to require an extra processing step but since the latest programs such as Aperture and Lightroom were designed from the ground up after RAW formats were introduced they handle them as easily as they handle JPEGs.

Image files are huge compared to many other types of computer files. For example, files captured by a 12 Megapixel camera can range up to 18 Megabytes. As resolutions continue to increase, so will file sizes. To make image files smaller and more manageable, digital cameras use a process called compression. During compression, data that is duplicated or that has little value is eliminated or saved in a shorter form, to reduce a file's size. For example, if large areas of the sky are the same shade of blue, only the value for one pixel needs to be saved along with the locations of the other pixels with the same color.

When an image is saved, the camera assigns it a filename and stores it in the current folder. Filenames have two parts, an 8-character filename and a 3-character extension. Think of them as first and last names. The name is unique to each file, and the extension, separated from the name by a period, identifies the file's format. For example, a JPG extension means it's a JPEG image file, TIF means it's a TIFF image file.

Folders are used to organize files on a drive. Imagine working in a photo stock agency where you're told to find a photo of "Yosemite" only to discover that all of the photos the agency ever acquired are stored in unorganized boxes. You have to pick through everything to gather together what you want. Contrast this with an agency that uses a well-organized file cabinet with labeled hanging folders grouping related images together. For example, there might be a hanging folder labeled California National Parks. If a further breakdown is needed, labeled manila folders are inserted into any of the hanging folders-basically, folders within folders. There might be one labelled Yosemite containing images of the park. With everything labelled and organized, it's easy to locate the images you need. The same is true of your memory cards and drives on your computer system. Both are equivalent to the empty file cabinet-plenty of storage space but no organization. The organization you need to find things on the camera's memory device (which we discuss here) is created by the camera, but on your computer, you have to create it yourself (as you will see later).

His most expensive print sold for $4,000.

Another great photographer, who most people have actually heard of, was the one and only Helmut Newton, who just recently passed away in 2004. He was most known for photos involving fashion and nudes illustrating themes of mass media, glamour, sex and theater. Newton's work was often categorized as bizarre. He was once quoted as saying "My job as a portrait photographer is to seduce, amuse and entertain". He most certainly did that better than just about anyone else. His most popular image is "Sie Kommen I, II". His photographs are in such demand that some go for as much as $400,000 each.

Probably one of the most famous photographers of all time was Ansel Adams. Adams was born In San Francisco California in 1902. He lived in Carmel until he died in 1984. His most popular photo was titled "Moonrise Over Hernandez, 1944". This is a breathtaking photo showing a beautiful night view and the small town below it. Other famous photos by Adams were "Clearing Winter Storm" and "Winter Sunrise". Adams did a lot of outdoor photography with some breathtaking views. His most popular photo has about 1000 copies in print. The price range of these photos, depending on condition goes from $5,000 to $175,000 if you can find one.

Very, very hard.

Antique Kodak Camera

Antique Kodak Camera

Photography is something special -the ability to capture images, pictures and marvel at them moments, days, months and years after the event has occurred.

George Eastman invented the camera-this had a unique 'KoDak"sound when one pressed the shutter to take the photograph. George also thought that the letter K was quite strong hence he quickly spotted the Ko-dak sound.

One can not help getting fascinated by the two small tabs on the tip of Antique Kodak camera -the small is for time laps photography; take your fingernail and pull up on it -click the shutter and it will stay open and it will expose the wooden mounted lens -while it is this position, slide your fingernail under the tab which is the larger of the two -a brass plate with a hole in it slides over the lens -this is what we describe as the "aperture setting"-pull up some more and one will discover another size hole, another aperture opening.-slide the tabs back and everything will come back to its original position.

When the time came to find a name for his unique invention, George Eastman did not think it fit to name that after himself -neither "George" nor "Eastman" but instead hit upon the word "Kodak"and thus the world was introduced to the Kodak camera and they quickly embraced this new invention.

George Eastman's first camera was made of wood and contained enough film to be able to take atleast 100 pictures. When one had finished the film one would send him the camera and he would unload the film load a new one for you and then send the camera back to the owner -by and by, George Eastman would trust people with his new light sensitive film.

When one sees the disposable camera available nowadays (though only at a few places) one can't help remembering the antique Kodak camera of George Eastman -what an uncanny resemblance the two have .In today's fast paced world, when one takes such disposable cameras to Kodak, one gets our pictures back but the camera stays with the Kodak Company. It makes one sad that one does not get to keep the camera.

Tips For Choosing a Digital Camera

The pros are that the center of the film lens is the best part of it. A SLR digital will make the most out of that part of the lens. The length of your telephoto will increase. Film lenses that are old cost less than new digital lenses, so you have some bargains here. When you proceed to buy your SLR digital, you can save on the lens and just buy the body! I hope the above tips for choosing a digital camera has helped you, and have a great time shopping for cameras!

Another money saving tip for choosing a digital camera is to question yourself on what type of usage is it going to be for your new camera, before you throw out your money to get one. Are you just going to take snapshots? Or you are going to take creative photographs? This will greatly narrow your choice down and will save some money for you.

Tips For Choosing a Digital Camera

If you currently have a film SLR and wants to go digital, you can save money if you already have lenses or flash from one manufacturer, because you can use them on a SLR digital camera of the same brand. There are some pros and cons though. The cons for doing this are that the lenses may lose their functionality if they are very old. Your wide angle lens will not be as wide, because 20mm lens on a SLR film id like a 30mm lens on a SLR digital.

Disposable Digital Cameras Deserve To Be Thrown Away

So, for now, I am not a huge proponent of disposable digital cameras. Although, I do believe that they will improve greatly in the future, so I am going to leave myself room to change my mind. For now, though, either buy yourself a disposable film camera, or go out and get an inexpensive digital camera. You will be happier in the long run.

Disposable Digital Cameras Deserve To Be Thrown Away

The problem is, a disposable digital camera does not have any of these things. You can only take a limited amount of photos and you certainly cannot check them out on an LCD screen that would make the disposable camera way too expensive. And you cannot go back and delete photos (although, many have a feature that allows you to delete the one that you just took of course, if you cannot see it, how do you know you want to delete it?) And you need to take your camera to a processing center -- you cannot simply set it up on your computer at home.

As far as the digital of a disposable digital camera goes, this part is just fine in theory. Let us first think of why people love their digital cameras: People love their digital cameras because they can take seemingly endless amounts of photos on them. People love to look at their LCD screens and decide immediately whether or not they need to take another photo to really capture the moment. They like to be able to delete the really horrible photos, right on their camera. They love the ease of viewing all of their photos at home, on their own computer.

Disposable digital camera these three words fit naturally together in todays world. After all, in todays world, everything seems to be disposable and everything is digital, why shouldnt a camera be, too? But is a disposable digital camera really a good idea? Do the brains that came up with this idea deserve to be saved in jars of formaldehyde and studied for many years to come? My opinion is, no.

First of all, if we have so much technology these days, why do we continue to think of ways to make things disposable? Shouldnt we be coming up with things that will last long for the pleasure and use of many generations to come? Instead, we are coming up with items that will fill our landfills for many generations to come.

So, why, would you want a disposable digital camera? I guess that after you pick up your photos from the processing center, you will have them on a CD so that you can put them on your computer but you can pay a few bucks and get such a disk with a disposable film camera, too. And unless you are a complete film connoisseur, you likely will not be able to tell or care about the difference between the images.

Once you've chosen your scene and your emotion, you must figure out how to create a sense of depth in your image (foreground, midground, and background) while giving the eye something to focus on - perhaps a waterfall or lake, or even a splash of colour in an otherwise dreary landscape.

Landscape photography is, technically speaking, photography of wide vistas. Typically we think of landscape photography as purely mother nature, but it can also include urban landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, and more, depending on your definition.

What is Landscape Photography?

Depth within a photo requires that the foreground, midground, and background all be in sharp focus at the same time, and that each zone has something worth your eye's focus. This large depth of field requires you use a small aperture (large f/number) and corresponding shutter speed for a proper exposure. Most typically you will see landscape photographers using aperture-priority mode to set the scene.

When you see a landscape scene that makes you stop and take a photo, try to figure out what made you want to capture that shot. What is the essence of the scene, and how would you describe it? Is it a lush forest, or a barren dessert? The words you use to describe it should be the mood you try to capture on film.

Why Getting Camcorder Packages Beats a Getting Camera Hands Down

Why Getting Camcorder Packages Beats a Getting Camera Hands Down

Advances made in recent years in digital equipment, means that we can all have great photographs side by side, with excellent video footage and even take amazing stills from that same video footage. The best way to achieve these pictures, whether moving or still, has to be with a digital camcorder.

With all of that, you could even make your own feature length production, well you could have a good go and you can still take all the normal photographs that you want. So why get a camera with a video function, when you can get digital camcorder packages that do the lot, with better results.

Camcorder packages by Canon, show just the kind of thing anyone would want and if not, they are bananas. The Canon VIXIA HV30 High Definition Camcorder Package, is not just a combination of a camcorder and camera, it is everything you need. You can find camcorder packages where you get a 2x telephoto lens, wide angle lens, mini DV three-pack, 3 piece pro-lens filter set, compact digital camera case, pro-hard case, lens cleaning kit, mini DV head cleaner, a mini tabletop tripod and a full size pro-tripod.

Most people these days, go out and buy a digital camera and then consider buying digital camcorder packages as well. This confuses me somewhat, as most digital cameras today have a function on them for videoing and vice versa. The conclusion I have come to is that the camcorder function, for capturing moving targets, on their cameras are not as good as an actual camcorder itself.

To get even better results from our equipment, we like to buy all the extras that go with our camcorders. Things like tripods, bigger lenses and filter sets, which can all mount up to an exorbitant price, if we are not careful. We can always hunt around for the secondhand stuff, but that's never as good as buying it brand new.

Digital Cameras

And thanks to the storage capability of digital camerasperhaps the biggest advantage to digital camera technologyusers can view photos on an array of outlets like the camera itself, a computer monitor, on web pages or on paper after developing them on printers. Some digital cameras, or autonomous devices, have rendered computers obsolete. Through the cameras USB port, the camera can connect directly to printers to develop pictures. Even televisions, DVD players, entertainment gaming systems and cell phones are capable of reading and displaying digital images.

With the electronic guide, youll learn how to do that and much more, including how to avoid being ripped off when buying a digital camera, how much is too much for a digital camera, the three levels of digital photography, and how poor skill cant be negated by cameras with all the bells and whistles.

Although it may seem like digital cameras are a recent phenomenon, the first digital camera available on the U.S. market was released by Kodak some 15 years ago. The DCS-100 had 1.3 megapixels, which are units of graphical resolution digital cameras use to display data, at a less-than-reasonable price of $13,000.

Fifteen years of advancement in digital camera technology has not only increased the number of megapixels for entry-level digital camerasits hard to find a digital camera with fewer than three megapixelsbut brought the cost of digital cameras down to far more reasonable prices (under $80 at some stores).

But perhaps no product has been more affected by digital technology than the camera.

But because digital imaging is ubiquitous in its availability, its important now more than ever to understand the particulars of digital cameras, the best (and worst) ones to buy and how to take professional-looking pictures.

Gadgets That Will Make Your Travels More Enjoyable

One of the coolest things about technology is that they make life so much easier. Technology gadgets have been evolving so quickly that sometimes, people find it hard to catch up. There are now gadgets for almost every need you can think of - portable printers, video and audio players, netbooks, and more. There are gadgets for both leisure and business.

People often travel for both leisure and business purposes. During the trip, there are often pockets of time available, and one may want to bring some useful gadgets along just to make better use of the time. For example, a flight may be delayed unexpected. A portable media player will help provide entertainment both in the airport and during the flight. Simply hook it up with your laptop and start playing a movie. So let's consider the various gadgets that may come in useful when traveling.

Portable media players.

Portable media players provide hours and hours of entertainment. These devices usually come with huge internal disk drives (over 100GB). The disk space is to allow the owner to store as many DVD movies as possible. For a media player that has over 100GB of disk space, an estimated 50 movies can be stored.

Portable players can be used to watch movies while waiting for a flight, during a flight, in a hotel room or at a cafe.

A netbook or a laptop.

A laptop is probably the most important gadget that you can bring along. Almost all hotels provide wired or wireless Internet access these days. In the hotel room, you can always connect to the Internet and start surfing like you usually do. You can chat with friends, work on documents, download MP3 music files or stream videos.

If you are traveling purely for leisure, you can consider bringing a netbook along. A netbook operates very much like an ordinary computer, except that it's meant for viewing content rather than creating content. You can use it to play movies, read digital books or play music. But don't expect it to run any resource intensive software. If you need work to be done, it's better to bring along a laptop.

Another difference between the netbook and an ordinary laptop is that the netbook is much smaller and lighter. For this reason, it is the ideal travel companion if you do not need the functions of a normal laptop.

Video eyeware.

Video eyeware is a gadget that you can wear like glasses. You can use it to play games or watch movies. It functions very much like a portable monitor, except that it's very small and light.

This gadget has a rechargeable lithium battery that will operate for 6-8 hours. You can plug it into your iPod, media player, Play Station, Nintendo, and more. This is a great gadget for watching videos outdoors.

You may wish to consider bringing the video eyeware along and leaving your computers behind if you are traveling for leisure. Doing so will help ensure that you really relax while you are on vacation. Stop thinking about work for those few days and really let go!

Best Cheap Digital Camera

With technology moving at its present rate, it is very difficult to say which is the best cheap digital camera. The best camera is the camera that is the most suitable for your needs. There is not one particular company which specialises in great quality low priced cameras. It is more a case that each of the well know companies sells a reasonably priced model which is suitable for general, everyday photography.

There are not only some excellent digital cameras on the market, but also some digital SLR cameras which are now very reasonably priced. The top of the range digital SLR cameras are often used by professional photographers as they combine the advantages of both digital and analogue technology. The SLR models which are aimed at the budget market at still extremely good quality and retail for a little more than the standard digital models but are often well worth the extra investment.

One company who seem to consistently produce a range of high quality yet reasonably priced products is Panasonic. Their Lumix range could be argued to include the best cheap digital camera. The DMCFX35 is a great camera which is compact, robust and gives great picture quality. This product is by no means the ultimate in low priced cameras. The camera that you choose must take into account all that is important for you.

It may be that your priority is size. Sometimes you find that you pay extra for a more compact camera although, as time goes by, digital cameras in general are getting smaller and smaller. Many people will place picture quality high on their list of priorities and some are concerned with the number of pixels that the unit is capable of producing. Unless you are planning to enlarge your pictures to any great degree, then 2 or 3 megapixels may well be plenty. This will certainly be sufficient if you are just thinking about taking snaps and keeping them on a digital album. The best cheap digital camera in this case will probably be quite reasonably priced as they tend to go up in price with the increase of megapixels. If you find that you usually take pictures which are posed for, or scenic photographs, then the speed that the camera takes to reach ready may not be an issue. If, however, you want to be able to take photographs spontaneously and quickly, you will want a camera that is ready for action when you need it. Perhaps you have young children, in which case you cannot always ask them to wait before they do something cute or amazing.

There are some great websites available which will be able to give you some details reviews of various cameras which are on the market. These are often ranked by price and you will be able to have a look and see which is the best cheap digital camera for your particular needs. Then you will be able to shop around and locate the best deals in the stores. Remember, the best for one person may not be the best for you.

What is DPI Dots Per Inch?

You have probably heard this term many times before especially in the context of printing your digital photos. DPI is sometimes used as a measurement of digital photo printing quality while the truth is that DPI is an indicator of the printer quality.

DPI stands for Dots per Inch. DPI is a physical characteristic of a printer. Every printer prints dots that when put next to each other comprise a photo. Each dot has a physical size. DPI is also known as the maximum resolution that a printer is capable of. Low-end printers have lower DPI while high-end printers have higher DPI.

DPI is defined as the number of dots a printer can print per inch. For example if a printer supports 1200 DPI it means that the printer can print 1200 dots per inch (on both X or Y axis). When printing it is important to make sure that the DPI is higher or equal to the number of pixels per inch in the source photo. If the DPI is lower the printer will not be able to fully display the high resolution photo. When the DPI is higher the printer will use multiple dots to represent one photo pixel.

DPI is not relative to the page size. DPI is a fixed number for a given printer.

Photography Tips For Backpackers

"There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs."

- Ansel Adams

General Advice for Photography

Imagine losing all your photos on your last day of your backpacking trip. You can take simple precautions to avoid this. Make regular backups of your photos in case something happens to your camera or if the memory card gets full. You can burn CDs or DVDs in Internet cafs (make sure you have a good sturdy jewel case which protects the media) or you can store your pictures on your MP3/media player or an external memory stick. If you are on a really fast (and I mean reaaaaaaaaally fast) connection you can even upload the photos somewhere on the Internet such as Flickr or Picasa.

If you make two copies of your photos (in case one is lost) make sure you store them in separate places (e.g. one in your daypack and one in your backpack) so you do not lose both of them if one of your bags gets lost.

If you want to ask someone to take your picture try to find someone with an advanced camera with a tele lense - they are usually skilled at taking photos. Give them instructions how you want the photo to look e.g. crop the picture above our knees, include all of the church towers.

Do not forget to recharge your batteries before heading out into places where recharging may be difficult (such as longer treks). Bringing spare batteries is a must if photography is your main interest.

If you are on a formal cruise or another place where you get your photo taken and the photos are displayed on a wall for purchase (most of the time at outrageous prices) and you are a bad person you can use your digital camera to take a photo of your picture. Now you did not hear that one from us ;) This also works for the postcard section ("Gee, I did not know that the Sydney opera house looked like that inside.")

Personal Experience - The Memory Card Mess

Keep track of your memory cards if you have several ones. I met an Irish couple in Jordan who managed to lose their card with all their photos from the trip. Memory cards are getting really cheap these days so get a big one (if your camera can handle it) so you do not have to bother with several cards.

Rule of thirds

Many people perceive the camera as a rifle: aim in the middle and hopefully you catch what you shoot. Many times pictures with people, animals and other stuff centered in the middle look pretty static and sometimes downright boring.

The trick is not to always put your subject straight in the center of your picture. The rule of thirds states that you should divide your image into different sections. Imagine two horizontal lines and two vertical lines in your viewfinder like a tic-tac-toe grid. Where these lines intersect is where you should place your subject.

Try to put the horizon on one of the lower or the upper lines of the image.

Use flash

Flash is not only useful when light is low. If the sun is positioned behind the subject the subject can turn into a dark silhouette.

Move in close

Do not be shy. Moving in close on your subject can create a strong sense of presence. This technique may not always be appropriate, e.g. at certain religious procedures. Some people have a strong aversion of having their picture taken for various reasons.

Diagonals

Diagonals can be used to provide a path for the viewers eye to follow in the photo. It can be used to lead the eye in one direction into the photo and in on direction out of the photo such as in the below example.

Personal Experience - The Mineralnye Vody Mistake

On the small airport of Mineralnye Vody in Russia my friend brings up his camera to take a picture of a plane he finds quite amusing - something most people would never set their foot in. Two Russian guards materialize from nowhere and demand him to hand over the film. Which he did after a few minutes of "negotiation".

Use natural frames

You can sometimes find natural frames which you can use to frame your subject. This can range from doorways, window frames, rocks, trees, etc. and can give a good composition to your photo.

Use your imagination

Change your level e.g. shooting upwards from a low position or downwards from a high position. Also experiment with changing from horizontal to vertical position in your camera.

Taking photos is all about being creative. Try to look for new ways of seeing your subject. What if you climb the stairs and get above it? What if you lie down on the ground? What if you turn the zoom lens while you take the photo? What if you use the timer on your camera and hurl it into the air and see what happens? What if you break all the "rules"in this section?

This article is based on the free e-book The Backpacker's Toolbox It contains checklists, templates, FAQs and practical advice (and a few bad jokes) to make your backpacking experience as smooth as possible.

Adobe Photoshop Elements - Download Your Free Trial Toady

Adobe was founded in December 1982 and in 1989 introduced Adobe Photoshop which quickly became its main product and the industry standard for graphics professionals. Their line of products has continued to progress and in September, 2008, Photoshop CS4 (Creative Suite) was released. This new release features many additions which are beyond my current understanding. I hope to explore and report on some of these possibilities such as the ability to paint directly on 3D models, wrap 2D images around 3D shapes, add depth to layers and text, and more.

The current Photoshop family contains four products:

Photoshop Elements 7.0 for Windows Photoshop Elements 7.0 for Macintosh
Photoshop Express beta
Photoshop Lightroom 2
Photoshop CS4 (x86 and x64)

Today we will look at the Photoshop Elements 7.0 for Windows, the #1 selling consumer photo-editing software. Here are a few of the positive attributes:

1. With it you can organize your photos by tagging them with keywords, dates or other information.
2. You can edit your photos with a number of available techniques. You can actually clean your scene of unwanted elements. You can use several group shots and create a single perfect picture where everyone is smiling.
3. You can create products such as photo books
4. And, you can share your photos with family and friends by ordering prints or using online offerings.

I went online to Adobe and downloaded a trial of Photoshop Elements 7.0. Using the layering technology, I placed my grandson in front of the the Akaka Falls in Hawaii and in a Christmas picture. I use the Group Shot Element and taking three pictures of my daughter's family made one really good picture where everyone was smiling and looking forward. I encourage you to check it out today.

I am a mother of two daughters and one son, with eleven grandchildren. I have thousands of digital photographs and videos of the children. I am always exploring available editing software for my pictures. At Sarah's Technology Center, it is my hope to share these possibilities with you and make you comfortable with your digital camera.

Wedding Photography Tips for Amateur Photographers, Article 3

This is part three in a series of articles I am writing to help beginning wedding photographers. Part one focused on learning lighting and exposure; part two discussed getting your equipment ready for the wedding.

This article continues the preparation theme by focusing on additional ways you can prepare for the wedding.

Spend Time Online

Search the internet for wedding photography tips for amateurs. You may also want to visit my web site (the link is below, I have an extensive FAQ and also link to three other pages that have tips for beginners).

Consider joining a message board or forum that is dedicated to professional wedding photography. If you do, be careful to not ask too many questions at the beginning! Instead, spend hours reading through old posts and learning as much as you can. Once youve read several months worth of posts you will be in a better position to ask proper questions. Digitalweddingforum.com has a special starting section for beginner photographers but there are other resources online as well. And be careful to not just READ the information, print the information out, shut your computer down, get your camera, and practice!!

Search for wedding photography web sites and view the sites of photographers in the big cities that are near you. Find the ones that are good. Analyze their best photos. Make a folder on your computer and save copies of the best photos you find online. Try to figure out what makes them so good: what is the posing like, the lighting (natural or fake), the location (can you find and use the same locations?), etc. etc. Then, go out and attempt to recreate some of those "best" photos.

Buy Several Wedding Photography Books

There are a number of good books about Wedding Photography. I have yet to find one that does an excellent job explaining the basics in a practical way, but you can pick up a lot of good pointers from various books.

I review a number of wedding photography books on my site (see the link below), and Amazon.com also has reviews of wedding photography books (go to Amazon.com and search for wedding photography).

My current #1 book recommendation is Steve Sints book: Wedding Photography, Art, Business, and Style. He covers a lot of the basics and has an excellent section on posing (using studio models).
I remember purchasing a new book or two before each of my first few weddings.

Spend Time with the Couple

Volunteer to take engagement photos of the couple. Doing so gives you the opportunity to see how the couple interacts and how well they do in front of the camera. It will also give them a chance to see the types of photos you take. This is important as you need to be setting proper expectations! If the couple is looking at wedding photos online, they are probably looking at really nice photos. Make sure they know this is the first wedding you have photographed!

Work with the couple to create a photo schedule for the day and try to include lots of extra time. Be careful not to make the days schedule about the photos -- the day is a wedding!

Part four of the series will continue discussing preparation by discussing shot lists.

In the mean time, get your camera out and take more pictures!

Christopher Maxwell is a photographer in the Kansas City area. He has a web site that includes Introductory Wedding Photography Tips for beginners. He shares practical advice and information that he has learned from photographing weddings.

A Book Review on September's Balloon by Kathy Flanary Nelson

September's Balloon is a heartfelt story about a woman who is deeply depressed. You feel like you are right there with the main character throughout the book. It is a dark and sleepy life she lives. Day after day Susan tries to hide in her dreams. She listens to her husband and daughter through the walls of her darkened bedroom. Her husband has bonded very well with their precious daughter. You can feel her pain of only being able to listen to her dear child while she faces her demons in her room.

Susan hits rock bottom and has to face her successful brother to sell her passion in life to him which is her camera. Her brother, Alex, makes her feel incompetent. Susan holds her head high and takes the money from Alex for her camera.

Susan argues with her husband. Her anger forces her to come out of her fog. Susan starts to get up and get dressed each day. She makes dinner like a wife and mother will for her family. She does all of this to get rid of her husband who she has come to hate yet deep down love when she thinks of the past.

September, the child, is a very thoughtful and caring little girl. The amazing balloon notes she writes will tear at your heart strings as will the "person" she sends them to.

Towards the end of the book you will find out why Susan was so dreadfully depressed and understand why she behaves the way she does. When you learn this you will understand her pain.

You will walk each step with Susan to a life for the better. You hope for her. You want to cheer her on. You have faith she will succeed to live. You want Susan, her husband and their daughter to become happier people.

This book is a quick read as you will want to see what happens in the next chapter. I highly recommend this book especially if you know someone dealing with depression. You will learn somewhat what a depressed person feels like and the obstacles the person has to overcome.

Plasma Vs LCD TV - Buying a HDTV For Home Made Easy - Brand Vs Technology Comparison

It's obvious that you are into a Fit when it comes to choosing your new television. 100 Manufacturers with 100 Models each with a 100 Different screen size and varied features driving you crazy. Help is around. You just need to ask.

First of all let's consider the biggest question of the TV Buyer, Plasma or LCD? What's the big difference? It's a TV after all! Well its not. Knowing your requirements will actually help you make a decision.

  1. Screen size: what Screen Size do you require? Where are you going to place your TV? In the Kitchen or your Bedroom where you are restricted to size, Or in your living room which can accommodate quite a Good screen Size?

Plasma Televisions are Quite Cheaper when it comes to large screen Size. Anything above 32 inches should be comparatively cheaper in the plasma range as to the LCD version

Plasma TV's Are generally bulkier than its LCD Counterpart.

  2. Clarity: As you may have special requirements apart from your Daily news and the cartoon for kids. For instance a Gaming TV requires that you have a good clarity and instant turn around time for vision. Plasma TV's in this case have a few setbacks and certain advantages.

A plasma TV has something called a burn area. When an image is set on screen for a long time (Say for instance a log of BBC channel while you are on the news for more than a few minutes) it tends to burn the image in the area. Even after you switch off the Television you see an outline of the Logo. This is not really good if you are looking for a gaming PC. LCD TV's Have Literally no Burn in.

Plasma TV on the other hand have great image Contrast and Specifically greater Visibility on Dark image areas. This is still an area which WAS drastically required on the LCD TV. The current LCD Televisions have gone a long way ahead in this area already and the difference is minimal though it still exists. LCD's Have a graying effect on the image which deteriorates its image clarity Specifically the Color factor.

  3. Viewing angle: LCD TV has a maximum viewing angel of 160-175 Degree but the quality deteriorates as the angle increases. Plasma television on the other hand maintains its quality even at a decent 160 degree angle
  4. Screen Life: Though LCD TV boasts a 40 Year screen life with 4 hours of TV viewing a day as compared to the 20 year screen life with its counterpart Plasma TV you could always count in on at least 20 years for an LCD TV and a Good 10 years for the Plasma.
  5. Power Consumption: Plasma TV's May be cheaper initially but will drain in a lot more power than the LCD Television. If you look at the Cost structure you would probably pay more than the TV price for Power on a plasma TV than that for an LCD.

Conclusion: Based on your requirement if your factor is Size

The bigger Screen size with Great performance for General TV viewing and you have a fixed budget go for Plasma. On the other hand if you are looking for Special Purpose TV for gaming etc and looking for more life for your television check out the Plasma TV's.

Note: Based on Research, We find that more people Buy LCD TV than the Plasma Version. The reason for their choice is not been obvious yet. We also noticed that the Sony and Samsung Version of the LCD Televisions are sold more than their competitors.

Camera Accessories

Your digital camera performs better when it is well accessorized. You need to invest in some good equipment to get a steady performance out of your digital camera. A fine digital camera costs a good amount and you can't think of upgrading each time a new model arrives in the market. You can get your camera accessorized to boast its performance and also give you long term utility. The basic accessories include camera tripods, batteries, bags and memory cards.

The camera tripod is the most basic accessory for your digital camera. Whether you are a professional photographer or it is your hobby the tripod provides stability to your camera and prevents the unnecessary shake while capturing images. Most tripods are foldable and can be easily carried around. Some are even flexible in nature and are apt for point-and-shoot digital cameras. The tripods provide the flexibility to shoot from different angles and get a steady shot each time.

Digital cameras are coupled with memory cards. Most of them have a limit on the card carrying capacity. If you are on a trip you could consider carrying an extra memory card for storing all your images. This way you don't have to worry about space in your digital camera and can shoot all that you like.

It is always handy to carry a remote shutter release. This will help you click shots remotely and avoid the shake. This is a great tool for taking night shots, when you are required to have long exposures. This will give you enough stability and are also useful for self-portraits and group photographs. You also need to carry around a lens blower to blow off the sticky dust particles from the lens without putting up your fingerprints or dirt from a wiping cloth.

You need to carry around extra camera batteries or camera charger to keep your camera functional. They are affordable accessories and can be used vice-a-versa for keeping your digital camera charged up. Lastly you need a sturdy camera bag to keep your camera safely and even have enough space for your accessories. A camera bag comes in varied forms; the most popular one is the backpack style. Make sure that the bag has enough padding to provide good protection to your digital camera. You can buy camera accessories from retail outlets or can even shop for them online at popular shopping websites. These websites will offer great discounts and offers on your purchases.

Paper Transistor

Paper transistor is one of the most important inventions in modern times. It revolutionized electronics and unlocked new and much, much smaller circuits. Portuguese researchers have produced the first paper-based transistors. To be more precise, they have made the first field effect transistors (FET) with a paper interstrate layer. According to the research team, these new transistors offer the same level of performance as 'state-of-the-art oxide based thin film transistors (TFTs) produced on glass or crystalline silicon substrates.

A common paper sheet is used on both sides in the fabrication of the paper transistor. It means paper is used instead of silicon which was invented by a Portuguese team and is manufactured at ambient temperature. This way, the paper acts simultaneously as the electric insulator and as the substrate. Furthermore, electric characterization of devices showed that the hybrid FETs' performance outpace those of amorphous silicon TFTs, and rival with the actual state of the art of oxide thin film transistors.

There is an increased interest in the use of biopolymers for low-cost electronic applications. Since cellulose is the Earth's major biopolymer, some international teams have reported using paper as the physical support (substrate) of electronic devices but no one had used paper as an interstrate component of a FET.

The cellulose not only used as substrate but also act as electric insulator by fabricating the device on both sides of the paper. Add to that the paper transistor outperforms the amorphous silicon thin-film transistor used in modern LCD displays and is up to par with the very latest oxide thin-film transistors, which are still a rare sight.

Since paper is a flexible and a biomaterial it would open up new possibilities for bendable displays, bio-labeling, small and cheap displays that could be used for labeling of varies things and more. Our only concern so far is the degradability, i.e. the lifespan of displays made from paper.
These results suggest promising new disposable electronics devices, like paper displays, smart labels, smart packaging, bio-applications and RFID tags.

Photography Backdrops Makes Pictures Come Alive

Most of the times in artistic photography, appearance is enhanced by hanging pieces of clothes with various designs in the background which makes a great impact on the photos. These designs may vary from buildings, country side landscapes, cityscape, sea or other different representations. This is commonly known as photography backdrops. Their choice of use depends on the artists intention, purpose or theme of the picture being taken.

Simply we can say that use of backdrops makes pictures come alive. By this i mean it brings life, color, glow and creativity. This greatly ensure that pictures contain special aesthetics effects and themes. They can also be used where there are cluttered backgrounds which may loose luster due to lighting or other aspects.

In digital photos, use of a computer makes it easier to create a personal backdrop using already existing pictures. Adobe photo shop and corel draw are some of the software that are used to customize photography backdrops after taking the picture. Its good to note that one should be creative in selecting color of background. However, using backdrops when taking indoor photos is the most effective.

Depending on the artistic impressions that you aim to achieve, you can choose backdrops that may range from simple to complex and elaborate ones. Most amateurs and free lancers will prefer to use plain photography backdrops but its necessary for work shop that carries professional photos. Backdrops definitely do add more authenticity and therefore effects from use of flash ought to be thought of well.

What is Kirlian Photography?

This is an amazing form of technology that in fact shows more in a photo than our naked eyes can see. It's details enhances subtle energetic environment around any form of life. Kirlian photography is a major player in pseudo-scientific research, its a form of aura photography and thus depends on electric field and energy discharges that occur between elements. However, the camera used greatly dictates the results.

Inventions in this field started as early as the 18th century. It's though important to note that Kirlian was the successful one in achieving this one of a kind results and thus the photography named after him. Simply this is also known as electrography. Visibility of acupuncture points in the human body is one of the great achievements of this photography.

Kirlian photography has been instrumental in helping many realize that the structure of the world relies on energy transfer that indeed surpasses ordinary understanding of the human mind and naked eye. Further interesting is the fact that it has shown even animate objects influence the camera in this photography. Its should be noted that its an instrumental component in the study of energetic fields and living objects.

Though still controversial, in Kirlian photography, the picture impression will depend on physical phenomena such as high voltage corona effects. Some critic of this photography argues that, if indeed this photography captures more than the ordinary electric charges, then we must be victims of self denial. However, if the opposite, then we have a ground reality to stand with. To be honest, I'll leave you to choose what side to believe in.

Gone are the days of big screen tv models that were so big they would take up a significant portion of the room where they were located creating an eyesore for the entire family. It's 4ms response time, along with 120Hz display makes it a great choice for a smoothly displaying images with a lot of fast action such as sports and video games. As mentioned earlier though, the area that sets this tv apart from previous models is the super slim 1.9" thick depth of the tv.

The Series 8 models come with another distinction from previous models and that is the addition of the A860 model. The A860 is also a "Touch of Color" model, but instead of an amber color it comes in a subtle blue bezel color.

iPod Shuffle - Redefining Digital Audio Entertainment

One achievement is not a guaranteed satisfaction. This is probably what Apple, Inc. had to say after the introduction of their second generation iPod Shuffle last September 2006. Making big fortune from desktop and laptop computers, the company is now in to another venture in digital entertainment. So what's so special about iPod Shuffle that everyone is so interested with it? Well, the product is just dubbed as the world's smallest mp3 player that time. Convincing? Not totally! Well see greater features of iPod Shuffle that will change the definition to "The world's all time favorite MP3 Player".

MP3 Players today are now capable of playing and storing hundreds and even a thousand songs. Unlike any ordinary mp3 player and other earlier versions of iPod, this model is given the nick as the "next generation digital audio player". Not because of the looks and design, but because of the sophisticated technology behind the creation and invention of the player. This extra lightweight player is first of its kind to store data in a flash memory based on the combination of technologies used in other version. The iPod Shuffle is so far the smallest gadget ever built by Apple.

First generation iPod Shuffles come with a built 512MB memory and 1GB respectively. But the second generation doubled it with a storage capacity of 1GB during the initial release and lately added 2GB in early September of 2008. It is estimated that a 1GB player can store up to 240 songs and a full charge can reach a playing time of twelve (12) to fourteen (14) hours of continuous play. Compliant with the USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 standards, the player is just as portable as your simple flash drive.

iPod Shuffle comes in various colors. White was the primary color for the first generation, but was soon replaced with Silver, Green, Blue, Pink, Orange, and other colors during the introduction and further development of the second generation. Accessories compatible with the player are lining up. This includes the ones that are made by Apple and other products by third party makers. Aside from the packed earpiece a user can enhance the audio by using a portable speaker creating a louder and brilliant audio quality.

Audio files with well known extensions such as MP3, MP3 VBR, AAC, Protected AAC, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), WAV and AIFF. The only iTunes format not supported by the player are audio files using Apple Lossless formating. Users can quickly transfer audio files from their computers to the iPod Shuffle.Using iTunes it has never been so easily uploading files to portable audio player. Simple drag and drop will send files from the computer to the player.

Through the player's portability and elegant designs one can enjoy the accompaniment of music anywhere. Added some accessories will definitely enhance your iPod Shuffle experience redefining digital audio entertainment.

Add Artistic Flare to Your Utah Wedding Photography

In a place where weddings are as abundant as clouds in the sky, Utah offers numerous choices when it comes to choosing your Utah wedding photographer. Once you have chosen, you can discuss all the available options you have with the photographer. Documenting one of the most important days in your life, your wedding pictures should be as unique and special as you are. Let your personality shine through by adding your own personal flare to your photos by following a few simple guidelines.

Mix candid shots with posed photos. If you love candid pictures, hire a photographer with a genuine talent for taking poignant, spontaneous pictures. These shots, coupled with your traditional photos will guarantee that your wedding album is diverse and stunning.

Make certain the pictures you want are taken. Prepare a list beforehand for your photographer of all the moments, places, and people you want captured on film. This will ensure perfect pictures are taken without you having to stress and worry about the photography. You can even recruit a family member or friend to help the photographer identify guests.

Use both color and black-and-white film, there are guaranteed benefits to using both. Color film preserves all the little details you so lovingly and meticulously planned: the matching flowers of the bouquet, the bright blue of the bridesmaids dresses, and all the colors used in your beautiful reception hall. On the other hand, black-and-white film is typically preferred for capturing emotional and intimate moments, creating timeless, classic photographs. Black-and-white film enables you to concentrate solely on the subject and the ambiance of the moment captured. The current trend in Utah wedding photography seems to lean towards black-and-white film, but using both kinds will give you the full effect of your wedding, mixing classic, traditional photos with vibrant and colorful ones.

Jam Out Loud With an External iPod Speaker

One of the best things about the ipod is you could store hundreds of your music and video collection in one compact device. Although the ipod was designed for personal use, you can now boast your entire music and video collection by simply plugging it into an ipod speaker. An ipod speaker can come in different forms. If you're the on-the-go kind of person, you can easily turn your bag into a walking ipod speaker. You can find these battery-powered speakers in different colors, designs and sizes. By simply placing your ipod into the bag pocket and plug it into the cord, you can enjoy your music anywhere while the world sings along. If you're the home-buddy type and love to host parties, having an ipod speaker in your home is the most economical and practical solution. Say goodbye to your CDs and just plug on your ipod to the speaker's dock. You and your friends can listen to the thousands of mp3s on your ipod, while your ipod is charging.

Of course, who wouldn't love ipod speakers on their cars or motorcycles? Well, you can have those too. Maximize your listening experience by enjoying your mp3s and videos even if you're stuck in traffic.

Things to Consider in Buying Ipod Speakers

One of the first things to consider when shopping for an ipod speaker is where you plan to use it. Determine if you want portable devices or heavy-duty speakers that can emit sound for your entire neighborhood. If you're particular about being able to rewind, fast-forward and jump to the next or last track, then you should think about buying ipod speakers with remote control. This is usually the most important feature people look for when buying speakers. Another thing to consider is charging option. Most speakers include a charging dock that your ipod could rest on, while listening to your songs. This is a practical choice for people who don't like being interrupted when listening to music due to a low or empty battery.

Of course, the most important thing to consider is sound quality. While some portable ipod speakers provide good sound quality, some are just designed with a pretty interface but low quality of sound. Don't be fooled by these kinds of ipod speakers. Instead, try out the speaker first before buying to ensure you have found a "best buy" speaker. This way, your ipod can be your personal jukebox with the best sound quality anyone has ever heard.

Saving Pictures Online Can Save You Heartache

I always told myself I should subscribe to one of those free online photo storage services! And there I was, staring blankly at the screen of my laptop. I was consumed with a mixture of disbelief and bewilderment. The past 4 years of my life was encapsulated a ten-pound heap of soggy, coffee stained mess. At that very moment, I could have banged my head on my computer until the F and the J keys were permanently imprinted on my forehead!

When I would hear the woes of a friend losing all of their data, I would always make a mental note to make a hard copy. Somehow, I would never get around to it. And in all, I would always attribute their hard drive crashes, digital dumps, and hardware havoc to carelessness. I would always rattle off the "you should have done this" or " maybe you could have done this instead". And here I was, as my entire life sat in a pool of my a.m. latte.

As I kicked myself for my arrogance, I realized, it wasn't just my life trapped in a plastic shell, videos and pictures of my children's firsts steps, first recitals, first teeth being yanked out of their heads were all drenched in my hurried morning ritual. And then the surge frantic panic came over me. In seconds I was trying to save them, releasing them from their prison of micron Intel chips and java. I quickly went to snatch up my laptop and shake out the coffee, hoping to catch it before it could permeate deeper into my motherboard. And to think all of this could have been easily uploaded to a free online photo service and avoided.

I hurried to my local computer outlet to seek out my favorite gadget guru. He promptly opened my laptop, and shook his head as I was in a frantic regurgitation of what was in my laptop and how I had failed to make hard copies or uploading my images to a free online photo storage site. But, in a sheer act of benevolence by a higher power and a pair swift hand, he was able to salvage my data and avert my emotional breakdown. However, my laptop was toast and would have to be replaced. By the time I walked out with my new computer in hand, my guru had all of my images and videos hosted on a free online storage service, far, far away from the dangers of steamed milk and caffeine.

MJ Johnston writes for a variety of websites, including Hoorray, a photo sharing site that offers the quickest and easiest way to create a free online photo storage.

Plasma TV Or LCD TV

Your old TV has just given it up and you need a new TV, but you are very confused on what to buy. Your question is Plasma TV or LCD TV and the sales people at the store are not giving you the information you need.

Plasma TVs were all the talk of the television industry just a few years ago but today they are being challenged by DLP and LCD TV's as well. Plasma televisions have come down in price over the last few years and the quality has only increased. Plasma TV's are today's most sought after and best viewing televisions on the market. They are thin and can be either placed on a wall or fit on its on component or piece of furniture, so a plasma TV stand is a vital component. Plasma TVs can suffer from burn-in produced by static images. After extended periods, stationary images "burn in" and produce an after-image ghost which remains permanently on the screen.

Flat-panel TVs create beautifully bright, crisp images using either LCD or plasma screen technology. Many models measure 4 inches deep or less, opening up a whole new range of TV placement options. Flat panel TVs are not the only ones to lose brightness over time; every TV set does, including the traditional CRTs. Flat screen televisions make for a great gift for Christmas, birthdays or any occasion. Yet, selecting the most appropriate TV can be challenging if the consumer doesn't know what he or she is looking for.

HDTV improves this dramatically for both. HDTV is short for high-definition television, which offers clarified, precise images with enriched colors and contrast. With superior resolution and sound, it quickly became the new standard for broadcasting.

Plasma TV screens can create a multitude of tints by varying the intensity of the light from these three sub pixels. When it?s time to display an image signal (RGB or video), a digitally controlled electric current flows through the flat screen, causing the plasma inside designated bubbles to give off ultraviolet rays. Plasma TVs have been steadily encroaching upon affordability in the last few years. Many new manufacturing plants have opened in China and Korea that produce the glass panel, which is the chief plasma display element. Plasma TVs offer large viewing areas (up to 50 inches) but are very thin. While they offer excellent picture quality, they are quite expensive and are fast becoming the popular choice for HDTV.

Brightness: LCD TVs are said to do slightly better in bright-light conditions. Black Levels: Plasma TVs generally produce very black blacks whereas an LCD TV will produce a very dark charcoal gray.

Consider buying Plasma TV for the purposes of viewing home videos like DVD or viewing HDTV channels.

Plasma TV's also do not have as long of a life span than a LCD TV. A plasma TV has a life span of generally about 30,000 hours, while an LCD TV doubles that with about 60,000 hours.

Plasma screens are high voltage devices that create light in three colors (red, green, and blue) in varying shades at each pixel to create an image on the screen. LCD screens filter or block light in three primary colors at each pixel in order to create an image. Plasma sets also encounter some image quality problems stemming from the nature of their pixels. Because plasma pixels need an electrical discharge in order to emit light, a pixel must be lit or unlit, but has no intermediate state. Plasma televisions come in conventional PC display sizes and also in sizes up to 63 inches for home theater and high definition television.

LCD screens: Liquid is suspended between two transparent panels. Within the liquid are crystals that, when activated by voltage, re-position themselves so that they either allow the light to pass through the panel and or block the light. Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) panels - work by trapping a liquid crystal solution between two sheets of polarized glass. When an electric current is passed through the liquid crystals, they change the polarization of the light passing through them in response to the electric voltage ? as a result of which, more or less light is able to pass through the polarized glass on the face of the display.

LCD TVs in increasing quantities, Sony is building a logistics center adjacent to the production site at ?Nitra Technology Center?. With addition of the logistics center due to start operating this autumn, Sony is positioning ?Nitra Technology Center? LCD TVs produce sharper pictures with high quality colors while plasma TVs can give more realistic colors. Both have their technical glitches, of course: plasmas can suffer from a burn-in effect while LCDs suffer from stuck pixels.

Currently, a 42-inch plasma display sells for approximately $2500, with cheaper ? and smaller ? versions available. LCD, or liquid crystal display, TVs have only recently taken off, and are currently more expensive than plasma. Currently in the plasma vs. LCD TV battle, plasma wins on the price because of their head start on producing the larger models. Currently, Plasma TVs have the advantage of offering larger screen sizes. Commonly available Plasma TV screen sizes include 32-inch, 42-inch, 50-inch and 63-inch models.

Panasonic has a series out right now that uses DLP and a new plasma lamp. It gives the quality of picture of high-end LED units but at a fraction of the cost and nearly the same lamp life. Panasonic's professional plasma monitors have great picture quality considering their price, but the trade offs -- including the lack of a tuner -- might be too much for some. Samsung plasma TVs fall short of these TVs when it comes to blacks, but overall picture quality and relative value make it one of the best choices for many buyers.

Sharp does a couple smart things to enhance the black levels on its 37G4U display. First, they include a first-rate anti-glare/darkness-enhancing coating on the LCD screen to counter excessive light emissions, which tend to dull blacks on the screen. Sharp produces one of the largest available LCD displays at 45 inches, while Samsung has a 46 inch, Sony and NEC currently produce units measuring 40" diagonally.

LCD TVs continued their strong growth, gaining 56% to a record of 28.5 million units during the quarter. For the entire year, Display search estimated that about 79.3 million LCD TVs were shipped, translating into a 40% of the total market of 200 million TVs.

As you can see when trying to decide on a Plasma TV or LCD TV there are good and bad qualities to each. But now you have a little more knowledge about Plasma TV or LCD TV's that you can go back to the TV store and ask the sales people better questions.

Dont Make a $300.00 Digital Camera Mistake!

If you are looking for the best buy in a Digital Camera then looking on the Internet is a good start. Throughout the various sites on the Web you’ll see many great deals on digital cameras. Unfortunately, mixed in with all those good deals are a few lemons and over priced headaches no body should be so unlucky to be stuck with.

Having the ability to know which of the many Digital Cameras advertised on the Internet are really great deals and which ones are the lemons will mean whether you win or lose on your next Digital Camera purchase. And knowing the difference between a lemon and a sweet camera can be difficult, unless you have the right information. Below are steps that will help you quickly tell if a digital camera is just a lemon in disguise.

How to Spot a Lemon

  • Do you know the one function that should be available on any digital camera you buy? - Image stabilization - Once you use a digital camera with image stabilization you will NEVER use a camera that does not have it again. Really! It’s that neat. Think about it… a large number of the pictures you will take are going to be indoors or in other words, marginal lighting situations. Without stabilization you run a higher risk of blurry (ruined) photos.
  • There’s a reason people don’t use the various capabilities of their digital camera. - Buried Menus - One of the main reasons the average digital camera owner does not change settings on their cameras is that they are too hard to figure out and it takes too many menu selections to get to them.
  • Not enough power – Battery Life – these days there is no excuse for your digital camera’s battery pooping out on you in the middle of your son’s birthday party. Current digital cameras can deliver 300 to 400 images per battery charge, even if you are using the flash.
  • Nobody likes a slow camera – Slow Operation – There’s lots of technical jargon like shutter lag and preliminary metering flash to explain why a camera may be slow but the bottom line is, you’re not going to enjoy a slow camera.
  • Low light can really challenge a digital camera’s ability to focus - low-light focusing aid – Many compact digital cameras have auxiliary lights that help them focus in dim settings. Again, once you use it you’ll always want to use it.
How to Research Digital Cameras Before You Buy
  • Do you know the first place to look when you’re shopping for a digital camera? – Aggregate Review Sites – Aggregate review sites include summaries from all main digital camera reviewers as they become available for each digital camera on the market, all listed in one place. This will save you a ton of time searching across the Internet for a particular digital camera review. Let someone else do the legwork. Note – Aggregate News Sites generally do not have nondisclosure agreements with the various digital camera manufacturers so you may find more colorful opinions on various digital camera models.
#1 Digital Camera Add-On

Regardless of which digital camera you purchase you will not be able to depend on the amount of storage memory the camera ships with – 1 Gigabyte Card - Considering how inexpensive memory cards are becoming it makes sense to pack your new digital camera with enough memory that you’ll never have to worry about running out. You’ll thank me later.

5 Great Tips On Choosing A Digital Camera For Your Children's Portraits

Many people think that they need a really expensive camera to
take quality portraits of their kids, but be reassured that this
just isn't so. On the other end of that spectrum are disposable
cameras. Although they are certainly affordable, disposable
cameras are not recommended for taking quality pictures of those
special moments in your children's lives.

The best camera to consider for purchase is a digital camera.
There are so many different kinds of digital cameras on the
market today with many choices and features. Terms such as
megapixels and features like zoom and memory cards can be
extremely confusing to the consumer.

Let's first define some common terms that you might see when
shopping for a digital camera.

Megapixels

A megapixel is the quality or resolution of a photograph.
To understand this, you must first start with a pixel.
When looking at a picture on your computer or on your
digital camera, a pixel is one dot on that picture. Your
picture is made up of many dots or pixels. Therefore,
one megapixel is one million pixels. The more megapixels
you have, the more dots or pixels there will be, making
your picture quality much better.

Digital Zoom

Digital zoom goes in increments or steps as you zoom
closer to your subject. It actually crops your image on
the camera to a smaller size and then enlarges that
cropped portion to fill your frame or your view of the
image. You definitely lose picture quality when using
your digital zoom.

Optical Zoom

Optical zoom is just like the zoom on a 35mm camera. The
lens changes and magnifies as it gets closer to your
subject. This keeps great picture quality even though
you have zoomed in.

Memory Cards

All cameras come with an internal memory. Internal
memories, however, do not hold many pictures on them. A
memory card will have to be purchased. But before buying
a memory card, check to see what kind of card that the
camera uses.

LCD Screen

The LCD screen is simply the screen on the back of the
camera that allows you to look at your subject or view
your images that you have already taken. Bigger is
better as a larger LCD screen allows for easier viewing.
An LCD screen is just one feature that makes taking your
kids portraits a snap. If you don't like what you see,
you can take more pictures until you have the shots you
want.

Now that we have broadened our knowledge base on some
terminology, here are some recommendations for which qualities
you need in choosing the right camera for taking your kids
portraits.

You may surprised to know that you can take beautiful pictures of
your kids with a digital camera with a 6 megapixel. You can go
higher in megapixels, but unless you are a professional
photographer, save some change by sticking to no more than a 6
megapixel.

Speaking of extra change, extra money would be wisely spent on
the optical zoom feature. You want to be able to zoom in and get
close-ups of your child. The more zoom equals the better quality
of the close-ups. A 10X optical zoom is an intelligent
investment as it is equivalent to 380mm in a 35mm camera. 380mm
is equal to 1247 feet! Digital zoom is not recommended.

You want to look for a 512 MB or 1 GB card. Some common memory
cards are Secure Digital, CompactFlash, Memory Stick and XD.
Because there are a great number of different manufacturers and
many suppliers of memory cards, you can shop around and find a
great deal which may even include rebates.

Although LCD screens are a wonderful feature, when taking your
children's portraits use the viewfinder on the camera. This will
avoid movement or shaking of the camera and therefore will
produce nicer picture quality.

With these recommendations, you will be well on your way to
taking breath-taking, professional-looking portraits of your
children.

What Are the Main Features of a Digital Camera and How Can You Use Them?

Digital cameras have revolutionized the photographic industry and will continue to do so. With more and more advanced features, these devices have also significantly brought down photographic costs. No wonder digital stores are always crowded. The advantages of digital cameras include easy storage, the possibility of editing photos on the computer, the elimination of film costs which have been replaced by memory cards and great features such as video and sound recording.

It is important to learn about these features in advance so that when you shop for a digital camera the salesperson doesn't manipulate you with all the marketing talk. You should have a clear picture on what is it that you need. The first and most important thing is the charged couple device (CCD). The pixel count in plays an important part in determining the quality of your photos. First you have to determine how many pixels you actually ned. If you want to take large prints (8''x10''), you need a camera with at least 3 megapixels. The more, the better. But if all you want is to publish photos on the web, one ore two megapixels are enough.

Another important feature is the zoom, especially optical zoom. This determines the camera's capacity to magnify the objects in the picture. The zooming in and out happens right within the lens and you can see it moving inwards or outwards just like with traditional cameras. The greater zoom power you have, the more you will be able to magnify, which gives you the possibility to shoot photos from the distance.

There are many other features you should consider apart from zoom and number of megapixels. Power consumption is also important and there are cameras which use a lot of power, which means you will spend a lot on batteries. Pick a camera that works with rechargeable batteries. If you could also get a recharger as a bonus, the it's great.

Another good thing is to have plenty of space on your memory card, especially if you are the sort of person who travels a lot. A CompactFlash card is a popular choice and it comes in sizes ranging from 16 MB to 1 GB. It is also compatible with a lot of camera models.

Also take a close look to the camera's LCD screen, as there is a wide variety of resolutions and sizes. There are also screens that you can move and bend over. The best choice depends on what you want to do with your digital camera. If you plan to take a lot of architectural pictures and shoot around angles, then an LCD screen that you can move is a good option.

These are the main things you need to look for before making a purchase and if they prove to be wrong they can really ruin your chances of getting good photos. Of course, there are plenty of other features. For example, if you always have problems with red eyes and want to get rid of them, consider getting an external flash. Red eyes will be much more seldom with this kind of equipment compared to a built-in flash. Think about other things that might interest you and look for a camera that responds to your needs.

Read This Before You Buy a Digital Camera

If you are looking to buy a digital camera there are a number of things you need to take into consideration before you lay your cash on the line. Digital cameras are fast becoming very affordable, however, they can still cost hundreds, even thousands of dollars so you should put some thought into your decision. The following is a list of things you should consider.

1. Know what types of photographs you plan on taking with your digital camera? Zoom and flash capabilities, lens options, battery life, mega pixels, etc are all things you should be aware of before selecting you camera. There is no reason to pay hundreds of dollars for features you don't need, just as the opposite is true.

2. What is your budget? This is probably the first, and maybe most important thing to consider before buying a digital camera. Once you know what you can afford, it simply becomes a matter of finding the greatest number of desired features available within your price range.

3. What post production resources do you have? When you purchase a digital camera, the spending doesn't necessarily end there. You also must take into consideration what the capacity and power of your computer and printer are. Some advanced features may not be any good to you if you don't have a system that can support them. You should also remember that you will be spending money on a printer, ink, photo paper, memory cards and possible image editing software. There will likely also come a time when you will need a bigger hard drive, not to mention a back up.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There have been important new developments in digital cameras...

Find out what they are before you buy a Digital Camera.

Panasonic Bread Makers - The Best Bread Machine You Can Buy?

Panasonic bread makers, especially the SD-YD250 and its sister model the SD-YD205 are two models of automatic bread maker that I have come to own over the course of the last few years. I'm a keen baker and I've owned quite a few of these appliances from other manufactures in the past.

The SD-YD250 priced at around $130 - which is a huge difference from the time I bought at $250. It's been on the market for a good number of years and is one of the larger models with a 2.5 lb capacity. This automatic bread machine offers features such as:

13 hour timer
Pizza Mode
Raisin Mode
Sandwich Bake Mode
Crust Color Control
Bake Only Mode
Non-Stick Coated Pan
Rapid-Bake Mode
Whole-Wheat Mode
Safety Fuse
Basic Mode
Power Interruption Protection
Multi-Grain Mode
Digital Timer
French Bread Mode
Dough Mode
Yeast Pro Dispenser
3 Different Loaf Sizes - Small, Medium and Large
Dough Mode

Let's see...I can use this appliance to make my own pizza other than the many different bread modes. I love pizzas and there is nothing like making my own and this appliance allows me to do it easily. I must say the different loaf sizes and awkward measurements that were contained in the recipes were quite confusing initially but if you have a kitchen scales then you'll be fine!

I dislike appliances that are messy and require a lot of cleaning but I had no such problems with this well designed and engineered appliance. The only other drawback with it is that there is no display window - something often required by expert bread makers who wish to be a little creative and innovative with their bread-making.

The sister model of the Panasonic SD-YD250, the Panasonic SD-YD205, is smaller model with similar but fewer settings and is competitively priced at around $110. It does almost the same thing as the larger model and ably as well.

It has the following functions:

Sandwich Bread Mode
Raisin or Bread Mode in either the white or wheat settings
Multi-grain
100% Whole Wheat Mode
Rapid Mode (3 hours)
Dough Mode
13-hour digital timer

In conclusion, I would have to say that for the price tag, it is more than well-justified although there are a few initial setbacks. Panasonic bread makers are some of the best available on the market at this price range. I would recommend them especially to those who are new to bread-making as those with experience might want to be a wee creative and innovative with their breads as mentioned earlier.

Follow the links for Panasonic bread makers and find out more about why it's the best bread maker the market. You'll also find other leading makes like the Oster, Zojirushi and Cuisinart bread machines.

Part One

Equipment: camera, meter, flash, tripod

This article is a simplified photography course directed at new photographers out there who want to know where to start.

If you really want to learn photography the first thing you need is a good affordable and reliable camera. It must, and I repeat must, be able to shoot in fully manual and fully auto focus modes. (This leaves out any digital cameras on the market right now, sorry.) To really learn photography you must understand the equipment. Youll need to learn how manipulating the shutter speed, aperture, and focus will have a dramatic effect on your photos. Meters, if you have a camera that can work in a fully manual mode it should have an internal meter suitable for what you will be doing. Tripod, youre going to need one whether its portrait work or landscapes youll need one eventually. Luckily you dont have to spend a lot here. Just something lightweight and durable. Flash, you can buy a separate camera mounted flash, which is great if you can afford it. Consider what kind of photography that you will be doing though. If youre going to do mostly nature and landscape, you may only need the fill flash that comes with most cameras today. If you plan on doing portraiture alone you will want to consider a camera mounted flash that has an adjustable angle.

Film, film speed to be exact. Slower speeds (25 to 400) are intended for portraiture and landscape photography. Faster speeds (600 and above) are intended for actions shots and photojournalism. So first you need to know what you going out to photograph and make sure that you have the appropriate film for the job.

Now that you have the camera loaded with film consider shutter speed. Do you want to blur motion, or freeze it? If there is no motion at all what shutter speed do you need to expose the scene with natural light. From 1/60th and down to the bulb setting will blur most motion. For example if you want to blur the water in a waterfall, a setting of 1/30th should work. (Youll need a tripod though.) 1/125th is a normal setting for most shots. On many cameras the 125th setting is marked in a different color to make it obvious. If you want to freeze action youll need to start with 1/500th and work up from there. The faster the motion the faster the shutter speed needed to stop motion. Many cameras go up to 1/2000th of a second. If youre trying to use natural light alone in a scene you will want to determine the aperture first and then see what shutter speed you need to properly expose the scene for available light. (Keep in mind sometimes there isnt enough light.)

Aperture, these are the set of numbers on your lens closest to the body of the camera. They can go from 1.8 to 22, and they are referred to as F-stops. These numbers determine how much light reaches the film inside of your camera. Most internal meters will blink on the appropriate aperture for the shutter speed that youve set, or the speed youve set will blink if your F-stop is correct for the speed. Both the F-stop and shutter speed can be changed to expose the scene correctly. Consider that the faster the shutter speed the more light will be needed to expose the scene correctly. This makes logical sense if you think about it. If the shutter isnt open as long, fast shutter speed, then there is less light able to make it to the film and so the scene must be brighter to expose correctly. To learn, bracket your shots. Take the first shot at the aperture suggested by your meter, move one stop up, take a photo, one down, take another photo.

Flash, I personally like shooting with natural light whenever possible and at most I use a fill flash. But if youre going to do portrait work then most of the time you may be indoors and you will need a flash sometimes. For the amateur the fill flash units that are on the top of most of todays cameras are wonderful for basic work. You will have to read your manual on your particular flash unit to learn what it can and cant do. This is where the camera that is fully manual and fully auto is great for the amateur. You can usually set it so that the camera will meter and set the flash output accordingly and then you still can control the shutter speed and aperture.

This weeks assignment: Have several rolls of 400 speed film, find a subject that you can work with preferably something that wont move, and shoot one roll of film. Shoot some of the roll in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Bracket every shot, take notes on time of day and light conditions, and what your settings (aperture) were for each frame, keep the film speed the same for the entire roll. Have the film developed and examine the photos. You should be able to see a difference in each frame. Youll need to repeat this procedure until you feel that you understand the relationship between shutter speed and aperture, and every camera and meter has its own quirks and differences, youre camera will act differently than someone elses. This way you will learn you own particular camera as well. Once you have a sense of how aperture works you wont need to bracket every shot you take, you may only need to do it in cases where you want to be extra safe on exposing the subject correctly.

Online Digital Photography Courses

How's your digital photography going?

If you're reading this chances are it's not going too good.

You see, there are many people trying to learn digital photography, just like you are. Because of that, a lot of people have released training system to meet the market's (that's you) demand.

Therefore, choosing the right one is essential. This article is basically going to show you how.
  • Branding - When you get the the site selling the online digital photography course(s), how does it look? Most of the sites will be in the form of a long letter with a big headline, nothing wrong with that, but just make sure it doesn't make TOO outrageous claims. Make sure it looks PROFESSIONAL, that's highly important, don't ever buy from a site with glitter, flashes and screamy colors.
  • Testimonials - Does the site have testimonials? Some of them that do not are still legit, but they are usually something to look for. Testimonials are basically messages from previous purchasers telling you what they think about the product. Just make sure it sounds like something that a regular person could have said and not something the merchant obviously made up... You know, don't buy if it says something like "Hey this product is GREAT! Buy it now!"
... get what I'm saying?

So in a nutshell, just make sure the site looks and reads professional and don't promise that you'll be a pro photographer overnight. They sometimes hire in professional copywriters to write and design their sites, and the text will really pull you in!

Often this is actually a good sign because if they can bother investing in expensive ($xxxx(x)) copywriters, chances are that they have invested a lot of effort in their digital photography courses as well.

I've done all your research though, click here to find out about the BEST opportunities out there, and the exact systems people use to make 6 figure incomes simply by submitting their photos to the web.

How To Take Stock Photo Images That Sell

Taking stock photo images that sell is not difficult at all. In my opinion, it is actually a lot easier than when I took photos that were artistic and had very complex meanings and messages woven within them. Stock photos that sell have usual characteristics within them. If you try to follow these characteristics your photos will most likely sell much better.

One of the main necessities for stock photos that sell is the quality of the picture. You must ensure that the photo is the highest quality you can get it at. Do not settle for less than your best. What I mean by this is that you need to make sure your photo is as perfect as you can get it and has flawless as possible. If your stock photo has errors it will not get accepted.

The technical aspects of stock photos are very difficult for the beginner. You must be sure your photograph is focused right and is as sharp as possible. An out of focus stock photo will not sell and you should not waste any time or money trying to fix it.

Lighting plays a major role in how great your stock photo looks. Be sure not to go cheap when lighting your photos. Take extreme care to ensure that the transition from light to dark areas of light on your photo are right.

Another very important part of stock photos is the noise. When you use larger ISO settings you will get more noise. It is NOT acceptable to submit your photos if they have a substantial amount of noise within them. Use photo editing software and get rid of that noise if possible.

Stock photos that sell are usually more simple than you think. One of the most selling photos on a popular stock photo agency is a picture of two hands shaking. The angle is a side shot showing both hands and the background is white. I can guess that if you've been taking photos for a couple weeks you could take a photograph just like this.

When taking stock pictures be sure that you are photographing a subject that is desired by people that buy stock photos. However, make sure that it is not too competitive unless you are able to compete and know how to do so. The best selling stock photos may be simple but they are precisely executed and nearly flawless.

15 Photography Marketing Ideas For Photographers on a Tight Budget

If you're anything like I used to be, photography marketing ideas come few and far between. It's a struggle to compete in an industry with such stout competition and creative talent. Don't fret though, if you stick to your guns, follow through, and be consistent, you too can build your own photography empire.

1. Got Business Cards? - I sure hope so because you'll need to drop your business card off in as many places as you can think of. Some ideas are coffee shops, restaurants, local businesses, community message boards, and the like. As far as a marketing tool is concerned, a business card is one of the cheapest ways to blast your name out to prospects.

2. Make a list - If you haven't already done so, please open a database program of your choice (MS Excel for example) and start entering every single person you know. Copy your phone book, your myspace friends list, your blackberry, or whatever medium you currently use, into this database. Now call every single person and tell them that you're doing great and photography business is picking up. Ask if they know anyone looking to have photos taken.

3. Display your work - Many photographers are either too intimidated by showcasing their work, or they just don't know how simple it can be. Local businesses are constantly on the look out for traffic driving techniques. Ask a local coffee house if they'll sponsor an art exhibition and team up with a local painter or sculptor. This is a win-win, you get exposure and the possibility of selling some prints, and the business gets thirsty customers!

4. Decorate offices - Along the same lines as above, you could offer to furnish small local businesses with art for their walls. Feel free to price your prints and offer a commission to the business if one of your prints sells.

5. Piggyback marketing/Joint Ventures - Target specific companies and feed off of their client lists. If you're trying to break into the wedding photography business, team up with a wedding decorator and split the cost of the mailer. This benefits you by exposing your photography to their clients, who are obviously in need of your services.

6. Offer coupons - Who isn't a sucker for a sale? I've personally seen huge increases in business when I use the back of my cards as a coupon. This technique helps to keep your card hot and ready in a prospects hands rather than ending up in a trash can, and it also instills a little more value to the card.

7. Collect testimonials - After you've done a few photo gigs, solicit for testimonials by using a follow up survey. Disclose that some statements may be used as testimonials for marketing purposes. Then, follow through and USE THEM!

8. ASK for referrals - Every single client you shoot will probably know of at least one person that has mentioned at one time that they'd like some photos taken. Harness those leads by asking every client to write down three of their closest friends names and phone numbers. Then, call them and let them know that you and "Mary" had a great photoshoot and she recommended they give you a try.

9. Write for clients - Start a newsletter for clients. This is a powerful tool that few photographers actually use. A newsletter can be used to update clients and prospects on local issues and things that you'll be involved in, like....

10. Help Charities - Organize, or help promote events for local charities. Even offer to shoot the event for free and use it in your portfolio. The exposure that you'll receive with these events can be nothing but positive. Don't spend much time "marketing" concentrate on what you're there to do and build relationships. About the only thing that you need to accomplish for your own business is to capture the contact information of as many people as you can. Feel free to pass out business cards, so long as you're discreet about it.

11. Get Involved - Get involved with local networking groups and/or student organizations. Offer discounted services to shoot their events and use the referral trick from number 8 to help harvest leads from this healthy prospect source.

12. Hold photo classes - Know more about photography that most newbies? Then you know enough about photography to teach a small class. A popular class that I like to teach is Real Estate Photography Basics. I teach it as an hour long class and offer it for free to real estate agencies around town. Realtors love it, and I gain an element of expertise in the industry. You're probably wondering how that generates business for me though. More times that not, an agent will call me after being frustrated in not getting the results they want, at that point I'm a shoe in. It's important to note that you shouldn't be selling your services in a direct manner in these classes, instead offer subtle tips and just pass out a credential page with your information on it.

13. Give a seminar - This is the same basic principle as holding a photo class, the difference is that you can offer it to a wider variety of people and talk on about any subject you'd like. Also, selling is more accepted in a seminar format than an education format, especially if it's free. Your target market should be someone that is interested in your service i.e. for aspiring models you could hold a posing seminar and offer headshots on location!

14. Use the web - The all mighty Internet. This could turn into an entire article in its self, but the basics are this: Post on free classified ad sites, social networking sites, and blogs that target your specific demographic. Use mediums like myspace, facebook, youtube, flickr, pbase, etc. to build an on line presence. Start a website with your portfolio and promote that with your offline marketing efforts as well.

15. Offer incentives - When all else fails, use incentives. What types of incentives? Coupons and Referral bonuses (when a clients referral comes in give the referrer a free 8X10 print or something).

That's just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to great photography marketing ideas. Armed with this knowledge alone could drastically improve your photography business. But why stop there?

Sharing Your Photos

Here at Photosource International, we take a place at the table not on one side or the other (researchers, art directors vs. photographers) but in the middle. We encourage a level playing field where photo suppliers can meet with photobuyers. One day we might talk about infringers on the Internet, the next day it might be "the sharing of ideas to contribute toward progress for us all."

The latter is the theme today, and I use Open Source software as my example.

Remember the days when the phone company, AT&T, was the only game in town? We were impressed with its telephonic innovations, but not until diversification of the telephone giant, did we realize what we had been missing out on in the way of telephone service, lower fees, and innovations.

Likewise, today, not everyone agrees that Microsoft's Operating System is the all-out best system. You've probably heard of one of the rivals to MS, Linux. The founder, Linus Torvalds, of Finland, had the idea he could build a better operating system than what was currently available. Some say he did. But more importantly, in the spirit of sharing, he opened up his source code to the community of programmers and would-be software designer wannabes. The "open source code development" movement was born. Open Source affords anyone, anywhere, the ability to contribute to a development project or to download and use an application or source code free of charge.

Many a software company lost a fortune due to the open source movement, and scores more individuals have benefited from it. It's quite a controversial subject among software firms and developers alike, even today. However, in the spirit of sharing, without "copying," Linus Torvalds has been able to take the Internet to the next stage.

Yes, Copyright is a colorful subject. It's also controversial, especially when you are involving artists, photographers, writers - the whole intellectual properties community, in the discussion arena.

But who knows, in this spirit of "uncopyright," we may see even better operating systems emerge, born from the energy of newcomer software designers.

Product Review - Escali Body Mass Index Scale

In today's world of fast-food, TV dinners, and macaroni and cheese, it is important to be aware of your body and your weight. In America, obesity and poor health has never been at a higher peak than it is in today's society. Many headlines have stated that 'Obesity is on the Rise'; it is true. Some sources estimate that obesity affects 30% of American adults. This number is absolutely outrageous. More importantly, obesity is one of the leading factors of many serious diseases and conditions. It is important that you take control of your own destiny and know your own health.

The body mass index system was established by Quetelet, a Belgian, around the 1840s. This has been a prevailing system that easily compares height and weight of individuals across social and political boundaries. The BMI is calculated based upon weight and height of the individual. An acceptable value is between 18.5 and 25. Once your BMI reaches the 25 to 30 range, you are classified as 'overweight'. A BMI over 30 is then classified as obese. With this knowledge, we know that 30% of Americans have a BMI of over 30. This is a serious risk to our society as a whole and to each individual that is obese.

For this reason, Escali Digital Scales recently released a new digital scale that tracks this important piece of information for you: the BMI150R. Upon input of your height, this scale will tell you not only your weight but also your BMI. It is also a tracking scale; meaning that it will keep track of your change and progress as you go along in your diet. It will track up to 10 individuals per scale so that your entire family can see their progress and see if they are progressing or digressing.

The BMI150R also comes with a remote monitor that displays your data. It can be detached from the scale and placed anywhere where it is most convenient for you. I found it useful because to put somewhere near eye level so that I did not have to bend over to see my weight or BMI, or squint to pick out the smaller numbers. This is a very useful feature for those of us who have some sort of impaired eyesight. The remote functions through the infrared spectrum so it is safe to use.

This digital scale also has a very useful hold feature that allows you to set off of the scale and it will still display your weight. The product also comes ready to use. Simply take it out of the package and it is ready to go.

As to the design of the scale, it is built extremely well. Not only will it last (and it has a 5 year warranty), but it will also spark up your bathroom. It comes in a very nice tempered white glass composite. So it will go in just about any arrangement of bathroom and can be easily hid from view, or left to stand out and compliment your bathroom. It is extremely easy to clean as it is merely a flat surface (without grooves or bumps, etc) and will continue to be a brilliant white throughout its life.

Overall, I would recommend the BMI150R as a good solution that will enable you to know your weight and a better measure of your health, body mass index.

Using Canon Lenses For Christmas Portraits

It's Christmas time once again and what gear would be perfect for our Christmas portraits and candid shots during all the festivities? If you know the basics of photography more or less you will be able to identify what your really need. But first of all, I can honestly say that for portraiture you will need an external flash. Something that may be equally helpful is a bounce card or a stofen to difuse and/or enhance the lighting that you want. If your camera has a built in flash, remember that built in flashes cannot be compared to external flashes. Bear in mind that with taking portraits, built in flashes can be limiting.

What lens should you go for? Always think about the range that you want and your budget as well. For prime lenses, the budget friendly Canon 50mm f/1.8 is an ok choice.

This is a good choice for beginners. The opening is wide enough (you'll have a shallower depth of field thus resulting in a more blurred background) and it's pretty fast considering its cost. But if you have the budget you can go for the Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM. Another wonderful (though a bit expensive) prime lens is the Canon 35mm f/1.4L. The problem with prime lenses is that your range is limited for obvious reasons and always consider the range that you want.

For zoom lenses, you can opt for the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L . In my personal opinion, this is a good range for portraits. You can also go with the 70-200mm f/4.0L IS or the 70-200mm f/2.8L for a longer range (if you have room, this can be great for candids). For low light and indoor use, a wide opening such as the f/2.8 or wider will be perfect.

The Fastest Way to Learn Digital Photography - If You're a Beginner

While that new digital camera may seem a bit confusing and complicated, you have made a wise investment, but you will only reap the benefits of owning one of these technological wonders if you learn how to use it correctly.

Rule #1: Read the Manual!
Rule number one for anyone wanting to learn and understand digital photography a bit better is to read the manual that came with your camera. Yes, there really is something worth reading in that thick book! Digital cameras come with a staggering variety of tools and settings to help amateur and professional photographers alike take amazing photographs. Of course, those are only useful to you if you know how to use them!

Your camera probably has various timers, macro settings, lighting and flash adjustments, and it may have a video camera feature as well as pre-installed settings for landscape, portrait, active or long distance imagery. Take the time to explore and experiment with these features as they will allow a photographer great flexibility, efficiency and creativity.

Rule #2: Always Keep Your Battery Charged!
Another critical pointer to a new digital photographer has to do with the camera equipment - if you can invest in a spare battery, do so! There is nothing more frustrating to creativity and exploration than equipment failure due to a dead battery. Be sure to charge batteries prior to setting out on a photo experiment, and also read the manual for energy saving tips such as shutting off the LCD display. Using a video camera feature, and video play back, may also drain the battery on a digital camera.

Rule #3: Get Out and Play!
The next step to learning digital photography is to get out and experiment with your camera. If you all ready have a good understanding of photography basics such as composition and lighting, you may already have some subjects in mind. But if you are not an experienced photographer a digital camera is a great tool to learn the process. Memory cards allow endless experimentation; the owner simply deletes the "duds" from the memory without spending a dime on film processing and prints. Digital cameras offer many settings, including auto focus and auto flash, but a new user should disable these features to see what the results are without the automatic settings.

Rule #4: Learn a Little Bit about Lighting
New digital photographers should begin their digital camera education with an examination of lighting. All digital cameras allow their settings to be adjusted, and the amount of light on any given subject will make a dramatic difference. There are cloudy day settings, red eye flash settings, macro photography settings and all of these will change the way an image appears.

If a digital photographer is prepared with an amply charged battery and a spare if possible, then they should take the time to examine their photographic results immediately on the LCD screen. You also want to be certain you have plenty of space on your memory card. Many DSLR digital cameras do not come with a memory card, so be sure to pick one up when you purchase the camera! Experimentation is much easier with digital photography, and the instant view of the resultant photographs makes the learning process much faster.

Using Photoshop To Create The Perfect Shot

Many amateur photographers have recently switched over from using traditional film to the digital realm, especially with the advent of the cheaper digital SLR or DSLR cameras.

Now you can use your digital camera in exactly the same way that you could a traditional 35mm SLR. In fact the digital models are even better as you can set the film speed and make previews etc etc.

Having made the change to digital there are far too few photographers who realize the power of Photoshop.

Digital enhancement of your images is something that can turn some of the most amateur photos into professional looking shots.

The possibilities are endless but include;

Creating better composition.

This is the first and most important step in creating the perfect image. Get this right and your photo could be stunning.

There are certain rules to the composition of the perfect image which we will not go into in detail here but you can adjust your image in Photoshop so that it adheres to some of these rules. For example, with a little creative use of the crop tool you can resize your image and adjust the position of the subject to fall into one of the key positions making it more pleasing to the eye. For example, in most cases, a central subject is not as effective as one that is offset to the side (adhering to the rule of thirds). Using crop can effectively move the subject over, up or down to position it perfectly.

Create depth of field.

You can quite easily add depth of field to the images that you have taken "snaps" of. If you have an image that is completely in focus and the background too is in focus (a common effect of non SLR digital point and shoot cameras) the you can solve this using Photoshop. You simply draw a mask or make a selection around the subject, invert that mask so that it selects all but the subject and apply a blur effect to the part of the image that is selected. In the later versions of Photoshop there is actually a filter that emulates the natural lens blur. The end result is a sharp, in focus subject with an out of focus background. This can be very effective and can draw attention to the subject.

Color Correction

You can change the color of your image and balance the overall exposure of your images in a number of ways. The most common is by using the levels function or the curves. Here you can gently touch up your photo making the dark areas darker and the lighter areas lighter to achieve greater or lesser contrast.

There are countless other methods and techniques you can use with Photoshop to better your images without having them look like they have been altered. Selective blurring can give the impression of movement, you can change certain areas of a photo such as the color of a specific object, red eye effects can be removed, skin blemishes and spots can be hidden and even with a little more skill and knowledge, complete makeovers can be achieved.

We have an ever increasing collection of video tutorials on our Photography Book web site which show you step by step how to achieve some of these process.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that Photoshop is a tool for designers and fantasy artists alone. It is fast becoming the chosen tool of the trade for most professional photographers and is used on a daily basis.

If you found this article of interest you might want to check out some of the tutorials on offer at our web site. We also have a popular digital photography blog which offers many tips and trick on a daily basis. Subscribe to our blog here.

Effective use of Flash Photography

Did you ever put your flash unit in manual mode? Did you ever manually turn on the flash when taking a day time outdoor photo? For many the answer to both questions is no. For most amateur photographers flash is just a solution for taking photos when there is not enough natural light. Although a legitimate use of flash photography there is much more ways to efficiently use flash. In this article we will cover the various types of flash units available, the different scenarios under which they can be used, the advantages of using flash to achieve better photos and the common mistakes people do when using flash photography.

As with any other technology knowing how it works behind the scenes and what your options are can help in better utilizing it for your advantage. Flash photography has been around for more than a hundred years. It started with a dangerous and manually controlled technology that used a powder that was lit by either fire or electrical current. These flash solutions were both dangerous and hard to use since the flash was not automatically synchronized to the cameras shutter. Modern flash units use an electronic flash tube that is synchronized with the cameras shutter. When turning the flash on the photographer does not need to worry about flash timing - the camera takes care of it automatically.

There are two types of flash units: Internal and External. The internal flash unit is built-in to your camera. It can be controlled through the cameras menus. Some low end cameras only allow the use of their built-in units. Some low end cameras and all high end cameras also allow the attachment of an external flash unit. External flash units are either attached to the cameras body through a dedicated slide-in slot or are connected to the camera using a cable. They vary in strength how much light can they generate for how long - and in mechanical characteristics can they be tilted or skewed or are they fixed in relation to the cameras body. Regardless of the connection type external flash units are electronically connected to the camera and are synchronized with the shutter.

When setting your flash unit to automatic mode the camera fires the flash in scenarios where not enough light is available. Many times the camera will make a wrong judgment and will either fire or not fire the flash when the opposite was needed. Also in some scenarios the camera will not be able to tell that firing the flash will actually result in a better photo. One problem when using a flash is washed out photos. When the flash is too strong or the object is too close to the camera the result is a washed out photo there are not enough details and the object appears to be too white or too bright. Another problem is a photo with too many details: in some scenarios the flash can create artificial shadows and lights which result in a photo that includes details that are exaggerated relative to their appearance in real life. For example when taking a photo of an older person skin wrinkles and imperfections can look much worse than they really are in real life.

It is important to know the limitations of the flash unit. Any flash unit has a certain amount of light that it can generate. Usually this amount can be translated to an effective range for using the flash. When trying to take a photo with the object too far more than the flash unit range the object will appear dark. When trying to take a photo with the object too close to the camera the object will be washed out or too white. It is important to know your flash range and make sure that your object is within that range.

If you need to take a photo with your objects not within your flash unit range it is better to turn off the flash completely and use a tripod with long exposure. Using the flash in such scenarios can fool the camera into setting a high shutter speed which results in a photo darker than a photo taken without using the flash at all.

In some scenarios the camera will not automatically fire the flash although using the flash would have resulted in a much better photo. One such scenario is taking a photo during day time when the object is shadowed. For example if the object is wearing a hat the hat can block the light from the objects face or when the object is lit from the side the objects nose can block the light creating a shadow. In such scenarios the flash unit can be set to fill in mode. The flash will be fired to fill-in those shadowed areas but it will not be fired strong enough to wash out the photo.

Another scenario is when the sun is behind the object. One example is taking a photo on the beach against a sunset. If taken without a fill-in flash the result will most likely be a silhouette of the object. If taken with a fill-in flash and the object in range the result will be a clear photo of the object against a sunset.

In conclusion your flash unit can be a great tool. Although for many using the flash in automatic mode is enough for the more sophisticated photographer who wants to achieve higher quality photos understanding and experimenting with the flash unit can yield great results. Following some simple rules such as making sure objects are within the flash unit range and using fill-in flash when shadows can appear on the objects is easy and significantly improves your photos.

19 Inch LG Flat Screen Monitor Review

This is one sleek looking LCD widescreen monitor. LG has really put out an excellent product. One customer has said it is the best they have had. It even offers more clarity and brightness then an HDTV.

To cover the basics this monitor is certified for Windows Vista and the monitors design is intended to compliment the new OS. This monitor offers a 1440 x 900 screen resolution along with 16:10 aspect ratio designed to offer you a better view of the screen. For those that do not know what aspect ratio is--it is just the width of the screen divided by the height.

One of LG's personal technologies is the FLATRON F-ENGINE. What is that you ask, well it is a picture enhancing computer chip that delivers you with amazing color, superb contract and image quality. This is what makes the monitor so good. The FLATRON F-ENGINE is able to balance the contrast and brightness both independently as needed to again keep the image supper for you.

When it comes to response time for the monitor you have been used to times like 25 ms or maybe 16ms. That is milliseconds but the higher the number the less crisp and clear your picture. Digital Photography Accessories

When it comes to buying digital accessories for your digital camera you will find that you will probably spend a bundle on stuff you will never use or probably only use once. This is if you are taking photography as a hobby, it is different if you are planning or are taking photography as a professional or serious hobby because you will have to buy accessories which you will most probably end up using or have to use.

Buying digital accessories is very necessary especially if you have taken a professional job like fashion photography or even a serious hobby like bird watching. Most of these accessories come in handy during difficult shots that have to be taken in a certain way. Not forgetting the lighting and of course how the sun hits the particular subject you are taking photos of.Long distance lenses, fish eye lenses are important as well as tinted lenses and the other many accessories which would include an extra GB of memory or off course the most important a battery recharger or basically extra batteries.

Many people forget that when you buy these small digital photography accessories, you will probably end up using them. In fact you don't have to be a professional to carry the accessories with you because you never know when they will come handy. Preparing for the unexpected is what makes you a good photographer. Being ready with the right accessories, is what will get you those shots you might have missed.

Deer Hunting Tips - Scouting Camera

When I heard of using cameras for scouting, I had images of fast-forwarding through hours of footage with no guarantee of finding anything. After actually looking at what they do I was impressed.

Scouting cameras use infrared to detect deer movement and take a picture. So you set it up, program it, and leave it. Pretty amazing. Instead of waiting for ages, you can use a scouting camera to do the waiting for you. And scouting cameras don't get bored or need to sneeze. They are excellent for finding out deer activity during the night. The infrared flash is practically invisible to the naked eye, and gives a detailed and high resolution picture, though usually slightly tinted with red.

That being said, here are a few tips to make sure that you'll be happy:

- Don't place camera facing the sun

- Clear anything from the front of the camera: grass, weeds...

- Put the camera about 20ft from the potential capture location

Cameras are best used where you'd expect deer activity: scrapes, rubs, mineral licks, food plots

They can be used to discover deer activity in potential hotspots, or they can identify if the deer are worth hunting. Big, experienced bucks are easier to scout using these cameras

The great thing about scouting cameras is the time they save you, and the information about deer activity they provide

The disadvantage is they can be expensive, and can be stolen. Most cameras come with a locking system to prevent theft and to secure the camera to the tree.

To take your hunting to the next, high-tech level, a scouting camera can prove to be a valuable investment.

Kindle - Don't Buy It!

The Amazon Kindle has been topping the electronic bestseller charts since its launch last November. Many customers bought this electronic book reader for its portability, readability and its ability to store thousands of books. Some fans of the Amazon Kindle even go as far as claiming it to be the ultimate replacement of real books.

Hefty Price Tag - The cost will have to be the biggest flaw of this e-book reader. At nearly four hundred dollars, how many books should one buy to make up for the price of the Amazon Kindle? Calculations based on the price of an average book reveals that you will need to purchase 40 books a year to make up for the cost of purchasing the electronic reader. I personally barely read ten books a year. Do you? According to statistics, the average reader in the United States buys about 4 books a year. Here, it will take up to 10 years for you to recover the cost of buying the Amazon Kindle.

Portability? - Portability is one of the main selling points of the Amazon Kindle. Having the dimensions of an average paperback and measuring just 0.7 inch in thickness, it boasts of the capability to store thousands of books at any one time. The truth is, how many of us read more than one book at any one time? According to online polls, most book readers do not read more that one book at anytime, thus although having the option of storing thousands of books in a little gadget may sound like a cool feature, in truth, this feature will rarely be used by the average reader.

Environmentally friendly? - Many tout the Amazon Kindle boast as a 'green product'. It is supposedly more sustainable, leaving less environmental impact on the planet compared to real books. It is true that many trees are cut down every year to make books, but is the production of an electronic book reader any more environmentally friendly? These electronic readers, like many other electronic products, are made of plastics, microchips, conductors and many other components. Real books on the other hand, are made of just ink and paper. It takes much more resources and energy to produce the Amazon Kindle and if everyone in the US were to buy an e-book reader, the carbon footprint left by the production line will far greater than those left in the production of books. Moreover, real books are 100% recyclable and can the same be said of the Amazon Kindle? The electronic reader needs to be charged every two days, unnecessarily increasing the consumption of energy of the average person, which contributes of the causes of global warming.

All in all, Kindle is another highly hyped gadget that is only useful for elite readers who purchase more than 40 books every year. Unless you have lots of cash to throw around or a collector of gadgets that you will barely use, stay away from the Amazon Kindle!

How To Make A Time-Lapse Video With Your Digital Video Camera

Getting the most out of your digital video camera can mean being able to create some really cool stuff. You just have to step outside the manual a bit and find the cool things you can do with your digital video camera and your editing software.

We have all seen them in a movie or a TV show, those very cool shots where they speed up time and capture a long segment of time and condense it into a very short amount of video. My very favorite example of this technique was an arty movie of many years ago that was called Koyaanisqatsi. (view trailer) In that movie they had some very interesting segments where they did time lapse effects to show driving on a bridge, flowers growing, clouds flying by and so on. Another example is many of the TV news stations nowadays have a camera that captures the days weather and then they process it down to a 20 second clip to show the clouds and weather racing by on screen.

Well this technique is not just a tool in the hands of the movie makers or the big TV stations. You can do this with your digital video camera gear too. I will go into two ways that you can accomplish this effect and get some cool results for your next video project. This one is worth playing around with in order to find the right settings to get the most dramatic effect.

Technique number one is to use the camera itself to do the time lapse recording for you. Almost all digital video cameras have the ability to do an interval recording. What this means in a nutshell is that you tell the camera how long you want to record for and how long in between recordings and it will go on autopilot for you for as long as the battery lasts or the tape runs out. This is what those cameras at the convenience store do, they record a few seconds of motion every 30-60 seconds giving the overall view of the traffic in the store over time.

Now if you want to capture some time lapse in your digital video camera you will need to get into your cameras menu and find Interval Recording (or in my case Int Rec, as I use a Sony PD 150 for my camera) When you select this option you will decide how long of an interval between shots you want and how long to record each time. If you are trying to capture something that takes a long time to occur and in which not much happens quickly you will want to set the interval at around a minute and the record time as short as possible on your camera. An example would be if you wanted to record a day in the life of a flower or the clouds rolling by in the sky. Suppose however that you want to capture an event that has lots of action and occurs over a much shorter time frame. Then you would want to shorten the interval between recordings and increase the time of each recording. So in this case you might record every 15-30 seconds and record up to 2-3 seconds of video each time.

I used this technique to capture an afternoon of work being done by a team of carpenters on my house remodeling project. The result was a flurry of activity as workers raced hither and yon nailing boards, carrying equipment and building walls. I have added it to my photo collection of the project. (Hey I had to live through the project so I might as well have a great record of it for posterity!)

Now suppose you have one of the great software video editing packages on your computer to work with your digital video camera. Now you can do it in post as they say in the business. You can record any length of video you want (subject to the limitations of your tape length) and then import it into your editing program.

Sidebar:

I use Adobe Premiere Pro for my editing jobs, but I have also used Avid DV Express, Final Cut Pro, and others in the non linear editing world. These are all great programs and are very powerful products that can create some very professional looking videos. You dont have to have these products to create your own videos but if you are serious about digital video editing it might be a good idea to take a look at these options.

I digitize my raw video of the scene I am doing time lapse on into my computer (big hard drive, video eats up GBs of space) and then import the clip into my time line. From th3e timeline you can then select the clip with a right click. From there you will be given a menu with options depending on the software you use. Select the option that says duration, speed or something similar. Change the speed of the clip so that time will speed up considerably. If you have an hour of video in the clip and want to shorten it to 2 -5 minutes then you need to increase the speed of the clip to 3 or 4 thousand percent of normal. This will require your software to render the clip at the higher speed and may take some time top process depending on the speed of your computer.

Once you have rendered the video clip at the new speed you will want to play it to see if the movie flows evenly or if you will want to readjust the speed setting to make it better. Sometimes you may want to shorten your raw video and adjust the speed down somewhat in order to get a smooth flow of action. Once you have rendered the clip at the new speed you can now cut and splice it as you see fit with the speeded up action intact. There are some things you will record that might only need a slight speed change, take for instance some digital video of your kids playing sports. Double or triple the speed of the clip and show it to them and you might have them rolling on the floor.

You can also use these techniques to capture the growth of a flower or plant over the course of days or weeks. Simply set you camera in exactly the same place at the same time each day and record an interval that works each day fro however long you want to document. May be you get the seedling just breaking soil and follow it all the way through turning into a full grown plant.

Another interesting idea is to capture the path of the moon across the night sky. Set up your camera on a tripod in a spot that can see the path of the moon for several hours. Set the camera to interval record and put the moon on one side of the frame so that it will pass across the frame as the night passes. This one may require some testing in order to get the exposure and framing right as well as the right interval to record at. Most likely you would want to set the interval as long as you can and the record time as short as you can but do a test run first to see what works.

I cant stress enough that using your digital video camera can be great fun and you can achieve some cool results. Play around and test. You just might find yourself creating some very creative digital video to share with the rest of the world.

The Livescribe Pulse Smartpen Might Actually Make You Smarter

If I had had the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen when I was in college, I think I would have been a happier student. You see, I'm an auditory learner. I absorb information by hearing things more than seeing them. Shapes and words remind me of sounds, and that's how I commit things to memory. I make flash cards, but I have to read them out loud as I study. In fact, my most effective method of memorizing facts is to record an audio tape where I say the question, leave a blank space of silence for me to answer when I listen to it, and then say the answer. I listen to the tape over and over, jumping in with the answers, until all the facts are firmly in my brain.

The one problem this causes with class notes and lectures is that, when I try to translate the words and sounds of a lecture, which my brain processes so easily, into written down words on a paper - while at the same time trying to pay attention to what's being said and not miss anything - I inevitably end up missing something. Not only that, but when it comes time to study for the test, more often than not, my experience of looking back at the notes is to gaze at the words on the paper and have an overwhelming sense of wondering why I wrote them. It's difficult to connect them back to the words that the professor was speaking at the time I wrote them down.

Well, with the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen, all of that could have been a thing of the past.

The Smartpen is a new invention that is causing quite a buzz around the web. It is a pen which roughly the size of a Magic Marker, and contained within it is either a one gigabyte or two gigabyte computer system (depending on which model you've decided to purchase).

It comes with proprietary paper, which you can either buy in spiral bound notebooks or print at home for free, which contains a command line on the bottom of each sheet. In those commands, you will find drawings that tell the pen to start recording, stop recording, playback faster, playback slower, jump ahead, or jump back.

When the pen starts recording is when the real genius of the concept begins. It not only records everything that it writes on the paper, it records all of the audio that is occurring in the room simultaneously as you are writing. The computer system inside the pen is able to sync the two together, so when you playback, you can tap any part of your notes and hear exactly what was said at that moment when you wrote them.

The incredibly useful and innovative features don't stop there, however. When you get back to your home computer, be it a desktop or a laptop, you can plug the pen into its personalized docking station and do a data dump onto your hard drive. It transfers your pages of written notes and the synced up audio into files on your computer. You can archive those files, or you can share them online. Best of all, they are keyword searchable.

The sharing feature would be particularly useful if people were in study groups. Or, to take it outside of a college setting and imagine a business application, if a company were to send a group of three employees to a conference, they could all attend different breakout sessions during the small group portions, and then post their notes, complete with audio, on the company server as an archived resource for all employees to benefit from.

Ultimately, in fact, I think that the Smartpen has many practical applications beyond taking notes in college - I feel that, just like an actual college student, it's real future is in the business sector.

An Overview of the Different Styles of Headphones

Headphones are used for a variety of purposes these days. Way back when, they were used almost exclusively for personal cassette or compact disc players. This allowed users to listen to the type of music they wanted to while doing any activity, without bothering others or interrupting others at the same time. However, headphones today are used for many different things.

They are used on traditional telephones, allowing you to carry on a hands free conversation, giving you the ability to do other things while you talk. Many business owners implement these kinds of devices to allow their call centers or help desks to help their clients with ease and precision. They are also used for chatting on the computer, with mobile phones, or a variety of other different activities.

When it comes to headphones, there are many different styles and types. Now days, you are only limited by your own imagination to be honest with you. These comes in a variety of different colors, designs, uses, and styles. For instance, you can choose from four basic types of ear phones. These types include over the ear, behind the neck, clip on, and in ear.

The in ear style is compact and perfect for those who are looking for a small device that fits comfortably, while still carrying a powerful sound and impact at the same time. Clip ons are a choice for many users because they fit snugly and securely around the ear and is designed to immolate the contours of your ears. This type is perfect for those who like to listen to music while jogging, exercising, or working in an active job.

The behind the neck style is also perfect for someone who is looking for a secure headphone, while keeping comfort and ease in the forefront of their mind at the same time. The traditional style is the over the ear. Whenever you thought of the headphone before, it was generally this type that you thought of. These are still very popular because they reduce the noise heard from the outside, giving you the best quality sound through the phones themselves.

Now that you know the basic types, you have to choose which one best fits your lifestyle and needs. You can choose from larger headphones, which may be suitable for recording and music related functions. You can also purchase smaller ones that are compact and easy to carry. You have your choice in travel, wireless, Bluetooth, or sports phones. The list of options can just keep going.

Why not a pair of headphones that includes a built in MP3 player or radio? The options really are virtually endless. Choose your own colors, your own style, and your own design to perfect match and suit your needs and uses. Your headphones should and can display your own personal sense of style, while keeping its usability and quality all at the same time. Headphones vary in prices, they can start as low as $20 and reach as high as almost $500 for the best ones around.

ASUS EEE XP Or Linux

Are you prepared to be challenged? Are you prepared to learn what a Linux machine will work like? I can imagine that personal preference and what others have told you will come into the equation rather than examining the facts coolly and patiently.

What are the advantages of running an ASUS EEE PC using the Windows XP operating system?

The first and major advantage is that most of us have been brought up with the Microsoft Windows Operating system, for the last 5, 10 or even more years. We are used to the way it works, its terminology and its tricks. Why should we learn anything else? You should remember that the AUS EEE runs Microsoft Works to handle its word processing, spreadsheet, and database.

Presentations can be viewed, but I do not believe that you can create a presentation with Microsoft Works. Why not add in Microsoft Office? The simple answer is that it probably would not fit on the small disk and also once it was there, there would be no room for any files to work on. We are already conscious of some of the limitations of the Microsoft XP Operating system on such a small machine. Internet Explorer is the web browser of choice. Why Change? Internet Explorer is full of danger as it is the first browser that hackers aim for. It is slow and there are many ways in which it is not the best program for the job. Take a look at Opera or Mozilla Firefox for web browsing. Windows XP needs anti-virus software as well as a firewall etc. With the lack of disc space we need to understand how all this can be fitted onto the machine to prevent any infection passing to another Windows machine on the same LAN.

On both the XP and the Linux machines, we have Skype to allow the user to send and receive typed messages as well as send files, photographs and listen to spoken phone messages as well as video messages.

Linux comes as a surprising package. There is a built-in firewall called Firestarter. There are a number of screen handlers, and each flavor of Linux seems to have a different screen handler. Once you start to get used to the differences, then suddenly the differences don't seem that big. We still have a WIMP interface (Windows, Icon, Mouse, and Pointer) and you still left click and right click in similar ways. Rather than using Microsoft Works, Linux comes with OpenOffice. OpenOffice is a direct competitor with Microsoft Office. The major difference is the lack of an e-mail client in OpenOffice, but the Mozilla Foundation has Thunderbird as an e-mail client and that is excellent.

OpenOffice uses its own file format called the Open Document Format for word processing, spreadsheet and presentation files and these files are about half the size of the corresponding files in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. OpenOffice will not read or write files in MS Office 2007 formats (until version 3.0 due out in September) but will support files in the older formats used by MS Office.

The one drawback with Linux is when you are installing a new program, if it goes OK then that is great but if there is a technical problem there are very few people who will help. With the ASUS EEE I doubt if you will be installing a new program very often because of the limitations in available hard disc space.

The big issue is that we pay for what we have and then the vendors seek to lock us into using only their products for the next 10 or 20 years. We have no voice in what gets added or subtracted. With OpenOffice, you can always ask for changes and encourage others to vote for them.

Are you wondering whether you should buy a Kindle or a netbook? We have researched the different options so you don't have to. Need to know what an IT person thinks, then go to http://www.boysbach.com

A Basic Guide to Photography

Give a camera to anyone and more then likely, that individual will figure out a way to use it. However, tell the photographer to take a skilled photograph, and not everyone will know what to do. There are basic guides to photography that is easy enough for anyone to understand, and will have many people up and running with their various photography projects in no time.

Knowing how to work with light that is outside or inside is also important. Having too much light in a photo can bleed out the images that are trying to be taken, while light that is absent in a picture can cast unwanted shadows, and the inability to see everything in the still frame. Creating positive angels for the various shots will also be of a large benefit for those that want to snap a great picture. Exploring with the angles and taking numerous pictures is a great way to have fun with a camera and photography.

Salton Coffee Maker Allows You to Plan Your Weekend!

Now, I admit that by saying that salton coffee maker can planned your weekend does sounds incredible. But if you read on and see the technology that they have come out with, you would agreed with me that this is some serious technology.

Firstly, what do we count as planning for your weekend? Personally, it would be the activities that we would want to enjoy and definitely the time that we would want to wake up right?

Of course, being coffee drinkers, the time that we want to wake up would also be the time that we would want to enjoy our coffee. The ideal scenario is to have a hot cup of java waiting for us on the breakfast table.

This technology under the name Westinghouse allows one to do exactly that. It allows you to program your coffee machine to brewing time.

Well, you might note that this is nothing special, any programmable coffee machines would have this function. True, except that this programming is not done on the machine itself but from a web browser anywhere in the world. This is a technology known as ICEBOX.

It comes with a controller that is compliment by a toaster, coffee maker and a oven. Other than being able to access and control the variables and features to give you a better brew on the ICEBOX panel, you can access it anywhere in the world.

Currently, once the coffee brewer is hooked, it allows you to set the brewing time and also monitor the water level with a internet connection. So, you can even planned and set the timing of your next morning brew in the office.

Many of you that have not heard of salton might think that it is some "new kids on the block" with a new technology. But, the fact is, it is a company that design, market and distribute a wide range of appliances like Toastmaster, Farberware and Westinghouse.

It is true that even at the time of writing, not many people would need such a technology. Why spent extra money on the ICEBOX and this coffee brewer?

Some people would think that this is a waste of resources, but as someone that evaluates kitchen appliances, I see this as a step towards a total automation of the kitchen, a variable that would help us better manage our life.

Sure, programming a coffee maker saves just a few minutes but any minutes saved are quality time spend with your love ones. Then, there is also the danger of forgetting to program the brewer.

Imagine how it is like to wake up to sour and cold coffee? I bet it would totally spoil the beautiful weekend that you have planned, so this is another reason how this programming might add value to you.

Anyway, this is my thought about this cool coffee machine, it might not interest you now, but you have to admit that it is pretty advanced technology, right?

Ebenezer Heng, the owner of On Coffee makers does the research for on any machines related to coffee. As long as you are looking for a machines to better your coffee experience, chances are you can find it at http://www.oncoffeemakers.com and read more about salton coffee maker

Samsung M8800 Pixon Review

I love shiny things, specially when it's black, has touchscreen, an 8 megapixel camera, autofocus, led flash. Come to think of it... I love making a review on a touchscreen camera phone. Now what's growing inside my heart is the new Samsung M8800 Pixon. A new contender from Samsung in the 8 megapixel camera phone arena.

Samsung M8800 Pixon gets its kick from touchscreen and imaging and hopes to be the definitive cameraphone. The inspired TouchWiz interface and massive screen are the right gateway to getting the 8 megapixel camera and real high-end video unleashed. The Pixon obviously plays second fiddle to the INNOV8 in the Samsung portfolio but dares to challenge it in the imaging department. This review is getting nowhere unless I gave you the...

The Taboo About Taking Pictures & Photographs in Saudi Arabia

I was in Saudi Arabia during the last three years and according to my personal experience, it is very difficult to practise photography in Saudi Arabia.

Before August 2006 photography was not allowed in Saudi Arabia. There are signboards that read 'No Photography' at several places including historical and famous mosques like The Prophet`s Mosque and Qiblatain Mosque. You are not allowed to photograph any governmental institutions, that is, government schools, mosques (since all mosques are owned and strictly supervised by the gove
